One plug was a platinum original equipment plug, while the others were normal.

However, the cap to the plug on one of the cylinders was missing (part threads on to top).

I’ll keep you all posted on my mileage.

2010-11-26 14 Posts.4 Posted on November 21, 2010 The spark plugs on the V8V10 3V gas engine from 2005 to 2008 are the only thing that has to be replaced. For the older engines, Ford implemented a whole new plug design in order to prevent the threads ripping out issues that were previously seen.

2010-10-25· Misfiring difficulties with the V10 6.8L in 2000. About two weeks ago, my 2000 Bounder began misfiring at random intervals. I changed the gasoline filter that was affixed to the chassis, and the situation improved slightly. After adding Lucas injector cleaner to the tank and using an ACP 7818 fuel pressure gauge to verify the fuel pressure, I was satisfied. The pressure rises to 40 psi and then decreases to around 31 psi as soon as the key is turned on and the engine is not running.

The entire bank on the passenger side is dead. The codes are P0351-P0355 which are ignition coil codes.I do have power to the coils with the key on.I also got a code P0503 vehicle speed sensor A but I think that may have been because I dove it WOT on the freeway for 20 miles.Anyone see this before? I saw an earlier thread that I can’t find now about a problem Ford had in 1999 with half of the ECM not grounding causing this problem?

How did you check for power,with a volt meter or test light? My thought would be that the power to that side of the motor is either been chewed by mice or is corroded inside the insulation. You will want to look at the power wire and look for a bump in the insulation,it will be green and just barely together._2004 Itasca 36g 350 C-7

I used a test light to confirm. I also checked the six wires that ground the ecm with a test light also good. Going to replace the ecm if I can find a place to buy one.

It would be a shame to replace an expensive ECU(ecm) if it’s only a bad wire. If you had one laying around, you could perhaps use it to see if it corrects the problem, but it’s an expensive part to buy on speculation. A multimeter would be a more accurate testing device to track down the issue. Just connecting the multimeter and wiggling the wires would perhaps reveal a bad wire/connection. But all 5 on one bank going bad at the same time is against all odds. I was an ASE mechanic in a former life so know enough to be dangerous. I have a good friend who has a shop in Chicago and he walked me through the testing using the wiring diagram. Basically I have power to the coils. I have continuity on the wires that ground the coils from the ecm to the coils. The ecm is grounded. I read somewhere that the ecm uses two solid state grounds, one for each bank. So I think what has happened is the ground inside the ecm for the 1-5 bank has gone bad, never grounding the coils and therefore never firing them. I tested the injectors they have both power and ground.Now I just need to find out where to buy a used, rebuilt or new ecm!And of course I was just in the process of selling the bus when this problem popped up!

Had a similar issue when trying to start in -30 weather and the computer shut down one bank. There is also a temp sensor that will shut down one bank if it thinks you are overheating. I would test a little more before replacing the ecm.

As mentioned, there is a ‘overheat’ limp mode that only allows 1/2 of the cylinders to run, and only for a short time.THINKING OUT LOUD- There is a TSB for transmission shifting issues caused by bad, faulty ECM grounds. The TSB has you route ECM ground wires to a new ground point. Although I’m not aware that this problem (tranny shift) is related to your problem, the fact that this TSB addresses bad ECM grounds raises some flags. It might be worth a try, before spending money on an ECM. (besides, if the TSB hasn’t been done, it should be done to prevent any future issues.)If you find a dealer that can re-flash the ECM, this might also be worth a try before gooing the new (used) ECM route
