I don’t believe that this is a widespread issue with the T-Rex species (yet). PostbyIntarsa» Exactly the same thing happened to me approximately 6 weeks ago. The computer code was read and reset by the mechanic. His hypothesis was that dirt or rust had accumulated on the braided wire that connected to the left rear wheel ABS sensor. It has been working perfectly since he reset the computer, but he claims that if the sensor has to be replaced, it will only cost approximately $75. 2008 Taurus X SEL FWD in Dark Ink Blue over Silver with no hood rust after spending $800 on it!

Postbyairlinepilot» On my 2008 trex, I experienced the exact same issue. The source of the problem was the right rear wheel on the backseat. (The code was provided to me free of charge by the alignment shop.) I made the decision to not waste time and replace both the wheel bearing and the speed sensor at the same time (abs). If you are familiar with working on your own vehicle’s brakes and suspension, this project should be rather straightforward. A factory magnet is installed within the wheel hub when the wheel bearing is purchased.
- The connector for the speed sensor, in fact, proved to be the most difficult to remove!
- The wheel hub is held in place by four 15mm bolts each on either side.
- Because of the amount of corrosion on my bearing-wheel hub, it was necessary to push it out with the use of a slide-hammer.
- With regard to the speed sensor, the item had fused in its bore, and I had to drill out the old sensor before I could replace it.
- In my driveway, it took me around 2 hours to finish the task at hand.
- I hope this may be of use to other members in the future.

The OBD code I received from the car was C1165 Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Input Circuit Failure, which corresponded to the same wheel as Airlinepilot’s T-right Rex’s rear wheel. I’ll be working on the car in the driveway tomorrow, so I’ll be able to figure out where the problem is coming from (whether it’s the speed sensor or just rust on the wires). Once I’ve completed my research for the group, I’ll submit my results.

PostbyKwakman» So that’s my conclusion on my ABS problem. It was simply only a piece of dirt that was getting in the way of the sensor’s ability to pick up the signal. When I cleaned it off, the ABS light went out almost immediately. I’m not sure how it became filthy, but I’m relieved that it didn’t result in the need for a new sensor. I was also able to establish a link between the ABS issue and the grinding sounds coming from the front end (see thread hereviewtopic.php?t=5740). In fact, the noise is the driver’s side front brake being applied when the vehicle approaches a tight turn.
Why?
I hope this may be of use to someone.

The signal indicated a failure with the left rear speed sensor once more. I ordered a replacement sensor from Ford ($84 Cdn) and had it installed by a professional mechanic. As previously stated, the old one had been rusted into its socket and needed to be drilled out completely. After the replacement one was fitted, the situation deteriorated further. The ABS/Traction light is now permanently illuminated.
On Thursday, he’ll be returning to his business.

Hi, I left my 2009 Ford F150 Platinum parked in an AIRPORT parking lot while I went on a four-day trip. Before I departed, there were no lights illuminated on the dashboard. When I returned from my excursion, I turned on the engine (much to my dismay), and the ABS light illuminated on the dashboard, and the skid traction control was activated. I attempted to turn off the traction control by lightly pushing the brake pedal and pressing the traction control button, but nothing happened and the lights stayed on.
Is it possible that ice or salt got lodged somewhere and caused the ABS sensor / Traction control to remain permanently activated?
