The most common reason for the airbag light to be on is because the car had its airbag deployed so if You have not had that happen or disconnected the battery You should take it to a dealership to make sure there are no other problems involving the airbag.
- On a ford escape turn the to on, then watch for the airbag light to turn on and shut of after seven seconds, then quickly turn the key off and wait three seconds, then repeat steps twice and start engine to reset airbag. Like (3)
What would cause an airbag light to come on?
The most common cause for the airbag light coming on is that the airbag system is deactivated or turned off. There may be an issue with a crash sensor, SRS module, or other airbag component. Alternatively, the sensor in the passenger seat that determines whether that airbag should be active or not may be faulty.
How do you reset the airbag light on a Ford?
Switch the auto key on the ignition switch. Wait until the warning light on the airbag turns off. Turn your car’s ignition switch back off for just over three seconds. Repeat steps 1 through 3 twice, making a total of three times.
How do I get rid of the airbag warning light?
How to Reset an Airbag Light
- Put the key into the ignition and turn the switch to the “on” position.
- Watch for the airbag light to turn on. It will stay illuminated for seven seconds and then shut itself off. After it shuts off, immediately turn the switch off and wait three seconds.
- Repeat Steps 1 and 2 two more times.
Is it safe to drive with airbag light on?
When the airbag light illuminates, it means that there is a problem with the system. Most likely, the airbag will not deploy in an accident because of this fault. Therefore, it is not recommended that you drive the vehicle until you have the system repaired.
How much does it cost to fix a airbag light?
Number 1 — Reset Airbag Light You’ll need to hire a professional to come in and examine the airbags before you continue to drive the car. This process can take several hours of time and usually costs a few hundred dollars, although depending upon the type of car it may be up to about $600.
Can a blown fuse cause the airbag light to come on?
Blown fuses can definitely cause the airbag light to come on. When the airbag system is malfunctioning, a mechanic or auto parts store should be able to read the code that the system is putting out which will give them a clue as to what particular problem the airbag is having.
Can you reset airbag light without tool?
In some older cars, though, it is possible to reset the airbag light without a scanner by removing the car battery terminals. Check the wiring system underneath the driver or passenger seat for any loose wires or corrosion in the connector plug. Spray the connector plugs with an electronic cleaner and restart your car.
Will disconnecting battery reset airbag light?
No, this information is stored in non volatile memory. The airbag light is usually on if there’s a problem with the system. Even if you could clear the code which is reporting that, if the problem isn’t fixed then it will just be detected again, and the light will come back on.
How do you turn off the passenger airbag in a Ford Escape?
To turn off the airbags on the passenger side, turn the ignition off for ten seconds. Turn it back on and the airbag light should come on for six seconds and then turn off.
Is an airbag warning light an MOT failure?
If your airbag light is on or your SRS supplementary restraint system warning lamp is on it will fail its MOT. It comes under section 7.1. 5 and 7.1. 6 in the manual and is a Major failure.
Where is the airbag sensor?
An impact sensor is normally fitted to the front of the vehicle as this is where a collision is likely to occur. The sensor is positioned inside the engine and a similar safety sensor is located inside the passenger zone of the vehicle.
How do I know if my airbag sensor is bad?
Symptoms of a failing airbag sensor You can easily tell if the sensor is functioning if the airbag warning light on the dashboard is illuminating every time you start the vehicle. But, if the airbag warning light stays illuminated after starting the vehicle, this is an indication of an airbag sensor problem.
Ford Escape: Airbag Light Stays On Diagnosis
As soon as you turn on your Ford Escape, the computer system does a self diagnostic check on all of the vehicle’s essential systems. If any of these tests fail, you will notice a diagnostic warning light illuminated on the instrument panel for the system that failed. When the airbag system fails this check, the airbag light will illuminate. It might be anything along the lines of SRS, an image of a person who has their airbag deployed, or the term airbag, depending on the model year and the nation in which you happen to be.
A warning light on your Escape’s airbag system is there to inform you if there is an issue with the system.
When it remains on, it signals that there is a problem.
Ford Escape Airbag Light on Causes
Your Escape’s airbag light is part of a bigger supplementary restraint system that includes other components. It works in conjunction with the rest of the system to keep you safe in the case of an accident. In the event that all components of this system are not functioning properly, the airbag light may illuminate. The airbag light will remain illuminated after an accident until the system has been fully repaired or replaced. It will not function until it has been fixed. Here are some of the most common reasons why the airbag light on your Escape may illuminate.
1.Seat Belts
In the event that your Escape crashes, safety belts are still the most vital safety item to have. Modern automobiles are equipped with sensors that communicate with the computer system to determine whether or not they are strapped and whether or not they are locked up. If you have a seat belt that is caught in the lock position, it is possible that this is the cause of your airbag light turning on. Check to see if you can get it going again by tugging on it.
2.Seat Sensors
The airbag system is alerted when the seat sensors detect that the seat is occupied. Some older model automobiles feature a manual button that may be used to switch on or off the passenger airbag. Look behind the seats to see if you can identify any parts of the wiring harness that have been loose or damaged as a result of the accident. This is one of the most typical reasons why the airbag light illuminates.
3.Airbag Itself
If the Escape’s airbag system is unable to get a response from one of the airbags during the diagnostic cycle, the airbag light will illuminate until the problem has been resolved and the system has been reset, which might take several minutes.
4.Airbag ECU/Sensors
It’s possible that the control unit for the airbag system has failed. It is possible to get it replaced or to request a new one in this situation. This is common when you are involved in a fender accident that does not result in the deployment of the airbag. It’s possible that one or more of the collision sensors were activated, but not enough to cause the airbag to deploy.
It is also possible for the airbag sensors to fail and illuminate the airbag light if there is water damage. This is one of the reasons why it is not a good idea to purchase an automobile that has flood damage, even if it appears to be in otherwise good condition.
5.Not Reset After Deployment
If your vehicle’s airbag has been deactivated and replaced, the airbag system must be re-activated. After the airbag system has been reset by a shop or you have sent the module to someone who can do it for you, it will not work until the airbag system has been reset.
Is it Safe to Drive Your Escape with the Airbag Light On?
Driving with the airbag light illuminated is not as safe as it should be. Since its inception, the airbag system has saved a vast number of lives. If you choose to drive with your Escape’s airbag light illuminated, you are depending exclusively on the safety belts to keep you safe, which is not as safe as it may be in an accident. Almost all of the safety technology that saves you from crashing is still in place (assuming your vehicle is equipped with it), including traction control, anti-lock brakes, and blind spot recognition.
Conclusion:Ford Escape Airbag Light On
The airbag system in your Ford Escape is quite intricate. There are a variety of various reasons why the airbag light may have illuminated on your vehicle. The majority of them should be left in the hands of a professional. It is not enough that the car can be driven in order to dismiss the problem as unimportant. If you have anything to contribute, please leave a remark in the section below. Thanks for reading. Wishing you the best of luck!
2012 Ford Escape Airbag Warning Light – Truck Trend Garage
Question: In August, I acquired a 2012 Ford Escape from a private seller. Since then, the passenger airbag warning light has been intermittently on. It has been known to remain on for many minutes at a time. Other times, it will only flash once and then turn off completely. This occurs regardless of whether or not a passenger is present in the vehicle. I’m afraid that this will cause the airbag to deploy without notice. Answer:It sounds like you’re looking at the Passenger Airbag Deactivation (PAD) indication, which is located towards the center of the dashboard’s instrument panel.
- This is a component of the Occupant Classification System (OCS), which allows an airbag and seatbelt tensioner deployment strategy to be determined based on the weight of the occupant in the front passenger seat.
- As we all know, the backseat is the safest location for a kid, and the activation of an airbag on a newborn may be quite deadly.
- In all other circumstances, the indicator should be turned off completely.
- Several components, including the pressure sensor, the OCS module, the Restraints Control Module, and the seatbelt buckle switch, might be at fault, as could a faulty connection in any circuit connecting these components.
- The system of restraints in the 2012 Ford Escape is insured for 5 years or 60,000 kilometers.

Multiple reasons of air bag circuit difficulties, including high or low circuit resistance, or a shorting fault, can be found on the 36 (driver) or 37 (passenger) positions. Depending on whether or not your maintenance dealer worked on the system for the same code/s, you may be able to exert some pressure on them if the point is pushed, or they may give you a reduced-price repair.

How to Disengage the Airbags in a Ford Escape
Photograph by Christopher Meder for Fotolia.com of a microchipped car key. If you intend to work on the front seats or any components within the Ford Escape’s dashboard, steering column, or center console, you must first disconnect the air bag system before proceeding. Essentially, this is the initial stage in many repair operations, not only for the Ford Escape and other Ford cars, but also for any vehicle that is equipped with a functional supplementary restraint system. If you do not follow these instructions, you run the danger of activating the air bags while working on the Escape, and fixing the air bag system may be a complicated and expensive endeavor.
2005 Ford Escapes and Later
Turn off all of the devices in your Ford Escape’s interior. Make certain that the ignition is turned off as well.
Step 2
Locate and remove the Smart Junction Box’s cover from its location. This box may be found on the right-hand side of the center console.
Step 3
Take the Restraints Control Module fuse out of the Smart Junction Box and place it somewhere safe. Consult your owner’s handbook or a Haynes Repair Manual for your specific model year for information on where to find the fuse in the first place.
Step 4
Insert your key into the ignition and turn the key to the “On” position. Keep an eye on the air bag warning light. If you turn off the RCM fuse, the air bag light will continue to illuminate.
It will not flash under any circumstances. If the light flashes or does not remain illuminated continuously, you must replace the fuse you pulled and then draw the right fuse again. Continue this procedure until the air bag light remains illuminated at all times.
Step 5
Remove the key from the ignition and turn off the vehicle’s electrical systems. Remove the negative cable from the battery by opening the Escape’s engine compartment. Replace the cable with a new one. Wait two to three minutes before continuing. There will still be some residual power left in the Escape, and you must allow it to exhaust itself.
Ford Escapes 2004 and Earlier
Check to verify that both of the front tires are facing squarely forward before continuing. Insert your key into the ignition and turn the key to the “Lock” position to secure the vehicle.
Step 2
Open the hood and have a look inside the engine compartment of the Escape.
Step 3
Remove the negative cable from the battery and set it aside. Wait two to three minutes for the remaining power in the car to be depleted before proceeding. References

The Escape is known to have a problem with the connection between the seats on the passenger’s side. When this connection is made to the seat, it is checked to determine if there is somebody sitting in the seat (if there is no one in the seat, the pass side air bag will not deploy). There is a wire running below the seat that will descend from the bottom of the seat to around the center of the seat’s underside. Check to see whether taking this apart and putting it back together has any effect on the bag light’s brightness level.
You might also try connecting the two wires together by jumping them from one connection to the other.

- Although no warning lights are illuminated, several of the instrument panel lights may not illuminate when the vehicle’s lights are turned on at night.
- I’d rather do it myself rather than spend $200 on a trip to the dealer for the simple task of changing a light bulb.
Backlights on the instrument panel do not appear to be working on the bottom part of the panel, therefore I am unable to see what some of the indicators are indicating.
For the time being, I’ve managed to resolve the ignition coil misfire issue.
