Remove the cap from the overflow tank and fill it with antifreeze to the full mark to try to flush out the air in the system. Leave the cap off and start the car and let it idle. You will note that the level in the tank begins to climb. This is normal. Once the thermostat begins to open, the level in the tank will drop. Likes: 0Posts: 986Likes: 0 Hmm, you’ve spent a lot of money on all the ‘correct components’ so far, and even the dealership is baffled as to what to do about the supposed problem (which is an odd thing) The following step is to invest $50 on a good water-oil temperature gauge and to install it in the vehicle.

  1. Then we’ll be able to determine whether or not there is an issue.
  2. Remove the radiator cap and run the engine until it reaches its operating temperature.
  3. For our autos, a normal temperature gauge reading is when the needle is just under half way down the dial.

  5. Almost everything was done by myself except for installing the coolant temperature sensor, which was done by the dealership.
  6. After some consideration, I’m not convinced that I want to keep dumping money on the problem indefinitely.

Additionally, if you notice the scent of burned coolant, you may have a minor leak.

It’s also important to check that the radiator is not too dusty and that there is adequate air flow on the exterior since at 75mph, the fans shouldn’t even be required to operate because you should have more than enough cooling.

If it’s operating at that high of a temperature all of the time, I’d expect something to have blown by now.

Before reusing your head bolts, check to see that they are serviceable (that is, that they meet specifications); if not, you will need to replace them as well. Don’t forget to replace the valve stem and spark plug seals as well.
