Why won’t my change oil light go off?
If you are referring to the oil pressure warning light, it may be that the oil pressure is low, due most likely to excessive wear in the oiling system. Or perhaps just a faulty oil pressure switch or the wire grounding out somewhere. If it is an oil level light there is a problem with the sensor or sensor circuit.
Why won’t my oil light go off?
If your oil light stays on even after changing your engine oil, you’re going to want to check the sensor first to rule out a malfunctioning sensor as the cause. The oil pump may not be circulating enough oil to keep the engine’s parts lubricated and functioning properly, which can in turn cause multiple engine issues.

2002-2003-2004-2005-2006-2007 Buick Rendezvous oil has been reset to the previous year. The General Motors Oil Life System determines when to replace your engine oil and filter based on how often you use your car. Every time your oil is changed, be sure to reset the system so that it can determine when the next oil change is needed again.
If you find yourself in a scenario where you need to replace your oil before the CHANGE ENGINE OIL notification is shown, just reset the system. You can use the following steps if your car does not have the optional Driver Information Center (DIC):
STEP 1
- Within five seconds, fully depress and softly release the accelerator pedal three times in succession.
STEP 3
- To turn the key off, turn it to the OFF position. If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL notice appears again when you turn on your car, this indicates that the engine oil life system has not been properly reset. Repeat the procedure a second time.
TUTORIAL FROM OWNERS MANUAL
Your car is equipped with a computer system that notifies you when it is time to replace the engine oil and oil filter. This is determined by the number of engine rotations and the temperature of the engine, not by the amount of kilometers traveled. The mileage at which an oil change is recommended might vary significantly depending on the operating conditions under which the vehicle is operated. Every time the oil is changed, you must reset the oil life system in order for it to function effectively.
- The phrase CHANGE ENGINE OIL will appear on the screen.
- It is conceivable that, if you are driving in the best possible conditions, the oil life system will not signal that an oil change is required for more than a year before indicating that an oil change is required.
- Your dealer has service personnel who have been trained by General Motors to do this repair using genuine General Motors components and to reset the system.
- If the system is mistakenly reset, you must replace your oil every 3,000 miles (5 000 km) or every 5,000 miles (8,000 km) since your previous oil change.

Oil life monitor on Buick Rendezvous.
In general, any oil life monitor will suffice. Should I follow the instructions and replace the oil when it says to? My car is at “43 percent oil life remaining,” and I’ve driven around 6300 kilometers so far. In previous automobiles that I’ve had, I’ve changed the oil every 5000 kilometers. Should I just put my faith in it? Oh, and I’m using the Mobil 1 synthesizer. Oil study was performed on Mobil 1 that was emptied from our Olds when the monitor indicated that it had 20 percent remaining, and the oil analysis professionals determined that the oil still had plenty of usable life left in it.
- All of these are real-world elements that have an impact on the usable life of oil.
- I now use Mobil-1 in our General Motors cars until the oil life monitor indicates that the vehicle has around 15 percent usable life remaining, at which point I replace the oil.
- This process is still somewhat overdone, and I may be running the oil for a longer period of time if I used synthetic.
- To be absolutely certain, invest $25 on a professional oil study of your case to be absolutely certain.

- It’s likely that you’ll notice significant disparities between each general manager.
- If I travel more than three miles, the distance counts against my 7500-mile oil change requirement.
Because I virtually always go far more than three miles per hour, my mileage nearly always counts toward the 7500-mile goal. I do, however, replace the oil every 5000 miles because my driving is a blend of simple and difficult. -Bob Gross- is a fictional character created by writer Bob Gross.
The Mobil1 is a decent vehicle. However, you should replace your oil and filter every 3000 miles (or whatever km that equates to). Forget about the computer display. - I seriously doubt it.
- As a result of engine design, operating circumstances, and other factors, the oil life in the actual world varies substantially.

- The synthetic oil, I believe, was preventing the piston rings from=20 breaking in, so if you left it in for a longer period of time, the oil would wear out enough to=20 allow the rings to begin sitting on their own.
- That is, as long as you are using the synthetic oil advised by the manufacturer.
- The GM link provided above makes no mention of variances between divisions or between divisions and teams.
- However, I doubt that GM’s oil life monitor would be developed differently depending on the brand of car being considered.
- It has been several decades since the separate divisions of General Motors even had their independent engineering staffs of their own (though Cadillac is sort of getting one back now).
- John What works for me with Mobil1 is a 10,000-kilometer interval between oil changes.
It appears that the “oil life” monitor is in agreement with this. For me, it’s roughly a 50-50 split between city driving and interstate driving. Regards,Al.
“John Horner” was the author. I’m sorry, but I don’t agree. Except for the attempt to deceive purchasers into believing that their vehicles are “low maintenance,” General Motors is not attempting to do anything constructive. This will be sufficient for the lease-type customer who will essentially abandon the vehicle after three years of ownership. Any automobile will last three years and sixty thousand kilometers with little or no maintenance. It is only after then that the true consequences of a lack of maintenance begin to manifest themselves.
No, they have no reason to.
Use of a distance/time schedule is considered to be the most “logical” method.
