Sunroof making noise?

If your car suddenly has booming wind noise inside when you open the moonroof or sunroof the fix is easy and costs you nothing. This is due to pressure changing rapidly as air flows over the top if the car and is disturbed a bit by uneven flow.

  • The noise is caused by metal-to-metal contact in the left rear corner of the sunroof opening. To repair, remove the sunroof module assembly. Next, turn the module over and clean the back side of the 12 rivet heads using an alcohol-based cleaner.

Why is my sunroof creaking?

Rattle or creaking noise is caused by the relative movement between the glass panel seal and body when the sunroof is closed. No production change required. Apply self-adhesive protective film to vehicle body: Move the glass panel to the tilt open position.

How do I stop my sunroof from squeaking?

Many sunroofs have complex gaskets to keep them from leaking. Ideally you would lubricate the gasket sliding areas but these are not always that easy to spot or reach. Go to AutoZone store to buy a spray can of fan belt dressing, spray that on the tracks of the sunroof to stop the squeaks.

What is the best lubricant for sunroof?

Use a small amount of lightweight, heat-resistant grease (such as white lithium) to lubricate all moving parts. For the glass, consider a cleaner that does not contain ammonia or vinegar. (These chemicals can vaporize in warm weather and cause irritation if inhaled.)

Once in a while in a heavy 20+ mph side/head wind, my sunroof creates a small wind noise.

There is a great deal of adjustability available for the sunroof glass.

To be completely honest, I wouldn’t bother.

When I brought it in, the staff informed me that the new ones on the lot behaved in the same manner.

As you might imagine, our car’s front end is not particularly aerodynamic, which contributes to the problem.

When I brought mine in, they checked it over for leaks and other problems and found none.

Because the front edge of the glass should be slightly down and the back end slightly up, pushing up on the sunroof corrects the problem.

When the front edge of the front or back glass is raised, it will catch the wind and generate noise.

Bring it in to the dealership and get it fixed up there.

It was so loud that I couldn’t hear the person next to me who was chatting.

A few months after I purchased Lewis, the sunroof began to make a terrible screeching noise.

This past fall, it began to whistle, as has been recounted by others.

The problem appears to be precisely as described in the following quotation.

The alternative “repair,” which involves the seal, does not appear to be a 100 percent solution in my opinion.

The r56 sunroof does create some noise, however I’ve discovered that many are mis-adjusted from the factory and produce noise when the temperature is above 50-60 degrees Celsius.

The same may be said for the second glass panel.

Each glass panel has a specified height, which is measured by a specific measurement.

What’s going on?

The noise would have been reduced if BMW had installed a solid sliding screen or cover, as almost every other car manufacturer does, to block out the sunshine and keep the interior cool.

Having had a Subaru and a Ford F-150, both of which had sunroofs, I found that closing the shade helped to reduce wind noise (when the sunroof was closed).

Do you know whether anyone has tried the Zippy shade that I’ve seen advertised on eBay?

What is it about developing and executing an opaque shade fcol that is so dang difficult?

How to fix Sunroof Noise & related problems

After consulting with Tech, I was able to repair my sunroof in less than 30 minutes. Of course, you’ll need a Torx screwdriver to complete the project. If you want to perform any maintenance or repairs on your Volvo, you should have a set of essential tools on hand. My sunroof creates noise, and the sunroof appears to be lower than it should be, among other symptoms. If you notice noise when driving on uneven roads, you should inspect your vehicle for sunroof noise, just in case. If you can hear it when you close your door, make sure the cover is open so that you can hear it when you open your door.

  1. In the event that they become partially loose, they rattle on the glass and generate a loud sound.
  2. Solution for Noise: You may just tear these bars off and store them somewhere safe.
  3. They’re there to provide additional support for your glass container.
  4. It’s up to you.
  5. Sunroof that has been lowered or left open: I noticed that when I glanced up at the top of my roof, the sunroof was not quite level with the roof, which was not the case with mine.
  6. You won’t be able to view it until you take the shield off of it.
  7. Make use of any means necessary to pry the very top of the clip positions free (I used my fingers, but you can use a hair tweezer or something like that).
  8. Then you may fold that piece inwards toward you, revealing the screws beneath it.
  9. However, you must close it in order to tighten the screws because it is the only method to determine if it is level or not.

After that, just press the shield back into its original position. This is a detailed tutorial so that you will understand what I’m talking about when you are really performing it yourself. Save money by completing the task yourself. I hope it is of assistance!

Interested in if the back of the sunroof is flat with the panel or whether it is somewhat higher than the panel, thanks.

Mine is very much flush, but I’ve read that it should be a little taller (say, 1mm) towards the back to compensate for this.

If so, what was the diagnosis and what was done?

Not at this time.

If you take a look at the images above from the original poster, you’ll notice that it’s quite extensive in scope.

As I previously stated, I’m cringing.

I’m assuming it includes things like adhesive and trim work materials, among other things, for correctly attaching the frame to the wall.

Despite the fact that I want them to perform it correctly, Audi should have sent over all of the necessary tools before I dropped my car off at the shop.

Frustrating.

I didn’t see it last night, but it’s significantly more noticeable today when I’m driving about.

What do you recommend I do at this point?

I believe it is safe to conclude that there is a fault with the design.

Yeah, it’s quite aggravating.

36Veteran MemberThree RingsVeteran Member This seems like a problem with the body’s flex that is creating the problem.

Torquing the fasteners is merely a temporary solution, since they will ultimately become loose due to the stretching of the joints.

Although smearing the mating surfaces of the roof with thick silicone fluid/grease will most likely reduce the noise to nearly nothing, this is not a long-term solution.

Anyway, after a few debates, one of the service advisers appeared to indicate that it was simply one of those things, although he did offer “body flex” as a possible explanation.

It’s not worth it to tear up the car for a week and replace the complete unit if it’s not going to get better.

I’m going to have them try to fix it again and over again, most likely to no effect.

It’s quite annoying.

Although it was not immediately evident, the car’s interior had been dismantled with a lot of carelessness.

I’ll give it a go, thanks for the suggestion!

If you are like me and you wash your car on a regular basis, the shine and wax might occasionally get on the rubber tires.

Every time I polish the roof, I cover those sections with masking tape.

I left the roof open in the garage for a couple of nights to allow the rubbers to take on their full shape before closing it up.

Hmm, that’s rather intriguing.

I’m simply irritated that they tore everything up and replaced it with new stuff for no apparent reason.

Anyway, would you mind snapping a picture of how you accomplished this feat? What happened to the rubber seal? I’m utterly naive when it comes to sunroofs because I’ve never had one and despise them.

Concerns – Popping/Creaking Noise from Sunroof

When the panoramic sunroof is closed, it appears to be a regular problem with Hyundai Sonatas. It is possible to learn about the problems and difficulties of numerous owners by visiting the Sonata forum. I’m not sure if this is also a frequent issue with the Optima’s panoramic roof, but it may be. I believe that this is one of the reasons why Hyundai decided to discontinue the panoramic roof on the 2018 Sonata.

In order for me to be willing to pay the Stinger price, I do not want to hear any popping or cracking sounds at any speed.

Please share your thoughts and experiences on this matter.

I didn’t hear any sounds at all.

As a result of driving with a sunroof for 13 years and just seldom utilizing it, a sunroof will not be installed on my future vehicle.

There are absolutely no issues with it.

There are absolutely no issues with it.

I believe that the problem appears to be limited to a small number of unlucky Sonatas.

My intention is to take it to the dealer this weekend to see if they can fix it.

I’m concerned because it appears that many people have attempted to take the automobile to the dealer, and the dealer has been unable to identify the problem.

– Kia Cadenzas, Sorentos, and the latest generation of Optimas are all affected by the problem.

Some business owners are fortunate, while many others are not.

I asked this inquiry on the Australian forum because they were the first to receive the automobile.

In the hopes of receiving a response from them, Hyundai/Kia should seriously consider removing the panoramic roofs from their lineup and replacing them with a conventional sunroof instead.

I’m fairly convinced that this problem has been resolved in the more recent models.

I would absolutely hold off for a year or two after the release of the stinger to ensure that these and other flaws have been eliminated.

When you upgrade to the SX turbo, there is so much noise that the car seems cheap, but it is far more enjoyable to drive.

However, when I have passengers in the car, I turn the radio down so that we can converse without being interrupted by the popping and creaking of the sunroof.

I used to drive an optima LX, and while the cabin was really quiet, the car itself was extremely uninteresting.

When I’m alone, I turn up the volume on my music, which shuts out much of the background noise, but not all of it.

Interesting.

I’m aware that the 2015 Hyundai Genesis experienced the same issue, however the 2017 Hyundai Genesis G80 does not.

What year does your Optima come from?

It’s an Optima SX TurboAwesome!

This is exactly what I’ve been looking forward to.

a first-hand account from a Stinger owner Thank you for your contribution. With your Sonata, you were fortunate. If you and many other Stinger owners in Korea have not experienced any noise from the sunroof, I believe we can safely infer that Kia has already corrected the issue.
