Ford Taurus Fuel Pump
I have a 2000 Ford Taurus with 104K miles on it and a 3.0 DOHC engine with an automatic transmission. My experience with this circumstance has occurred at least four times in the last seven weeks, and it appears to be completely random. So far, the problem has manifested itself after a short trip (about 5 miles) and after the car has been parked for at least a few hours (as when driving home from work or shopping). I’ll pull over to the apartment complex to pick up my mail, which will require me to turn off the car for around 1-2 minutes.
After allowing the vehicle to sit for around 30 minutes or longer, it will start and operate normally.
When I do hear the fuel pump begin to operate, the engine starts without a hitch.
I took it to a dealer, but they were unable to assist me since their diagnostic system could not detect a fault code in the vehicle.
As an added bonus, this does not occur exclusively on extremely hot days, and the car has always had at least half a tank of gas when it has occurred (these always seem to be suggested causes).
It appears to me that if the gasoline pump were faulty, it would be more visible and the vehicle would simply cease functioning.
