Torque is available immediately off the line at 365 lb ft, with 80 percent of that torque accessible immediately off the line.
What is the number of cylinders in a 5.4 Triton?
The spark plugs are fired in the following order: 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8.
Most Reliable F150 Engine: Dependable Ford Powerplants That Keep Going
Every day, fix or repair something. First and foremost, on race day. Found on the side of the road, dead. Only going downhill at high speed. Each and every person has an opinion on Ford automobiles, and the engine is almost always the target of the joke. If you’re seeking for the most dependable F150 engine, you should know that the engine quality has generally been decent throughout the years, with only a few blips on the radar screen here and there. Choosing a Ford truck is a big decision, and the powertrain will make a big impact in how much you like driving your pickup.
In conclusion, when looking for the most dependable F150 engine, keep in mind that virtually all of them have been battle-tested.
Every group is likely to have a few stinkers in it.
2004-2008 Triton 5.4L Has the Most Complaints
The 5.4-liter V8 has been one of Ford’s most popular engines for many years. However, it has received an astonishing amount of complaints on CarComplaints.com for the 2007 and 2008 model years. Specifically for the 2007 model year, there have been 49 engine knocking complaints and 24 damaged spark plug concerns documented. For the most part, 2008 is a disappointment, with the now-famous 5.4-liter Triton V8 tearing up cam phasers and ripping spark plugs from their sockets.
In many instances, the engine has been replaced, which necessitates the removal of the cab from the chassis. During these years, the 5.4-liter Triton V8 should be avoided at all costs.
2009-2010 Triton 5.4L
The 5.4-liter V8 saw significant improvements in 2009, with the cam phaser troubles being resolved and the spark plug issues all but eliminated. The Triton 5.4L engine, which produces 300 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque, is one of the most dependable engines available for the F150. There were still minor faults, such as crank angle sensor troubles and the rare spark plug that fell off in the head, but these were far less common and cost far less money to fix than in prior years. Unfortunately, it would not endure.
3.5-Liter EcoBoost V6
Ford debuts the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine in the Ford F150 engine range for the 2011 model year, which will be available for the 2012 model year. With its combination of fuel economy and twin-turbo power, it seemed like a fantastic concept. The first model year, on the other hand, was everything but fantastic. According to CarComplaints.com, there are 52 engine complaints for the 2011 model year, all of them are connected to stalling, stumbling, or slow performance. That’s not a particularly promising start.
The EcoBoost’s 365 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft.
With its pleasing and strong performance, it is one of the most rewarding and powerful engines available for the Ford F150.
5.0L Coyote V8
In parallel with the introduction of the 3.5-liter EcoBoost, Ford decided to give the 5.0-liter Coyote engine a go in the F150. After all, why not? With 385 horsepower and 387 pound-feet of torque, it is a powerful engine that was previously used in the high-performance Mustang GT, and it should perform well in the F150 as well. There have only been a few complaints regarding the Coyote engine in the F150, with the most common being harsh running and stalling. This is most likely due to the fact that it is naturally aspirated, which is one of the primary causes of worry.
Yes, they are dependable.
2.7L EcoBoost V6
The 2.7L EcoBoost V6 is a competitor for the title of most dependable F150 engine. It isn’t considered to be the best.yet. This is due to the fact that it has only been in production since the 2015 model year, and so has not shown to be trustworthy over an extended period of time. If such is the case, we may have a different winner. The 2.7L EcoBoost V6 engine offers the best of both worlds in terms of performance. Because it produces 325 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque, it is more than adequate for the majority of truck owners.
And, to make matters even better, there are virtually no complaints about it — except from a few isolated incidents. If you’re in the market for a truck that’s three years old or newer, the 2.7L EcoBoost should surely be on your list.
4.6L V8
The 2.7L EcoBoost V6 is a contender for the title of most dependable F150 engine. As of right now, it isn’t considered the greatest. Given that it has only been in production since the 2015 model year, it has not yet shown to be dependable over an extended period of time. Then we may have a different winner than we expected. 2.7L EcoBoost V6 offers the best of both worlds when it comes to performance and efficiency. Because it produces 325 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque, it is more than capable of meeting the needs of most truckers.
Moreover, save from a few isolated incidents, there have been virtually no complaints about it whatsoever.
The Ford F-150: Model Years to Avoid (and to Buy)
The Ford F-150, in particular, was released in 1975 and went on to become one of the most popular pickup trucks ever produced. There have been various revisions of the design, and it has been updated in a variety of ways, the most recent of which being the switch to an aluminum frame.
How long does an F-150 last?
The answer to this question is dependent on a variety of factors, including the vehicle’s model, how well it is maintained, the surrounding environment, and a number of other considerations. Depending on the year (for example, the 2005 F-150 has been known to fail after 75,000 miles), you should expect to get anything from 100,000 to 250,000 miles out of your F-150 depending on the model. Conversations with other Ford owners on forums as well as having your truck serviced by a professional are the greatest ways to determine the expected lifespan of your truck.
How’s the engine?
Again, not every F-150 is equipped with the same engine. The answer to this question will be dependent on the model year of your vehicle. Here’s a high-level summary of the situation:
- The Ford F-150 was available with one of two major engine options from 2003 to 2008: Ford’s 4.6 L Triton or the three-valve 5.4 L 3V Triton V8. However, there were many amazing and reliable trucks and engines available throughout this time period. One truck and engine to avoid is the 2004 Ford F-150, which is infamous for having one of the worst engines ever built in the history of motor vehicles. Several engine iterations and updates were made between 2008 and 2014, with the majority of them being fairly reliable, ranging from the revised5.4 L 3-valve E85 capable Triton V8 to a5.0 L (302 CID) 4V V8
- 2014-present F-150 models have seen a number of product innovations, which have resulted in some of the best Ford models to date
Which one has the most reliable online reputation?
The beautiful thing about F-150s is that it’s difficult to go wrong when you’re driving one. With a few notable exceptions, of course, but here are some of the most memorable moments over the previous 20 years.
2001 Ford F-150
It’s an oldie, but a goodie in terms of quality. The 2001 Ford F-150 has a lengthy service life, with many drivers saying that they were able to easily extend its lifespan to 250K miles or more with good maintenance and care.
2009 Ford F-150
The 2009 model was recognized for having a smooth ride, a substantial towing and hauling capability, and some of the most responsive handling of any Ford truck, despite not being the most powerful vehicle in its class at the time.
2018 Ford F-150
The 2018 Ford F-150 is available with a choice of four different engines, with fuel efficiency of up to 22 miles per gallon and a towing capability of up to 10,800 pounds.
It comes with a backup assist system for towing, as well as a variety of additional features and conveniences. It’s also the lightest vehicle in its class, according to Edmunds, which rated it one of the best used trucks of the year in 2018.
Which ones should I avoid?
Even a firm as dependable as the FMC is prone to making blunders every now and again. Here are some examples of when they failed to deliver on their promises.
2004 Ford F-150
The 2004 Ford F-150 is known in Ford history for the large number of problems it encountered and its unreliability. Up to this point, 16 recalls have been issued for parts, and the vehicle is also renowned for having engine troubles. It’s best to stay away from this one.
2005 Ford F-150
With a total of 14 recalls, the next year’s model didn’t fare much better, and this one was apparently hurried into production following the 2004 catastrophe.
2010 Ford F-150
It was necessary to do extensive maintenance and repair on this particular model due to structural issues. It’s another one to cross off the checklist.
Going beyond the F-150
Whether you’re in the market for a pickup or not, there’s more to Ford than simply the F-150 to consider. In addition to providing numerous articles such as this one so that you can make educated purchasing decisions, we also provide information on Ford Ranger model years to avoid and how to locate the Ford F-350 for your specific requirements. 2006 F-150 5.4L constant misfire fixed!
Okay, here’s a journal of my misfire nightmare for you to enjoy. The truck has 122K miles on it. We were returning home from Oklahoma to Dallas, Texas, when we reached Grapevine, when the vehicle began to idle quite poorly. We hobbled back to the house and to bed. The next day, I determined that new plugs were required. I went to Autozone and picked up eight new FoMoCo platinum plugs for my truck. After carefully following the TSB about spark plug removal, there were no damaged plugs. Reassembled everything after replacing all the plugs with anti-seize plugs.
- It was at that point when the horror began.
- All of them were misfire codes, as you can see.
- Replaced the three that were in doubt and reassembled everything one more before taking it for another test drive.
- Until it was missed for the second time!
- I tried to think as logically as I possibly could.
- So at this point, I knew it was either a connection or gasoline that I was looking for.
- I unplugged them all and then plugged them all back in again simply to hear the clicking sound.
It was OK until I went to floor it and it sounded like someone had thrown a fistful of bb’s into the combustion chamber of the engine.
I was very relieved.
I decided to replace injectors when I got the truck home to check if it was possible that I had a faulty injector.
On5, there was still a misfire.
On5, there is still a misfire.
There was still a misfire, and it was only really obvious when the engine was under strain.
So that’s what I did.
The next morning, I made the decision to start over.
I was coming close to being able to complete 4 with my eyes closed!
Would have discovered the problem a lot more quickly.
This is not a good omen.
I realized right away that I had a gasoline problem.
As long as I was going to be taking the fuel rail apart, I may as well change all four.
Within 30 minutes of arriving at my house, I had removed the rail and replaced the injectors.
After a short test drive, I discovered that there were no misfire codes!
I’m not sure, and I’m not very interested.
In this case, the spark plug on 4 had just enough fuel to burn at idle, but as soon as the rpms began to climb, the spark would jump to the head, and because 5 is the next in the firing sequence, the spark must have been cross jumping.
Following that, another fresh plug was set ablaze. To summarize, you should check, double check, and even triple check your work to ensure that it is free of errors. It will save you a significant amount of money in the long run. I hope this is of assistance to someone somewhere!

Verified Purchase in the United States on May 10, 2019Reviewed in the United States This is a fantastic product. I purchased a more costly set under the impression that they were of higher quality, however they did not fit at all. I purchased these and they fit exactly and were simple to install; my vehicle has never operated as smoothly as it does now. The product was delivered on schedule. I would strongly recommend this seller as well as this product. verified purchaseReviewed in the United States on October 8, 2019Verified Purchase Great product.
- It worked well.
- Hoping these will survive as long a the originals; I’ll provide an update if anything changes, but so far everything is well.
- After having them for about 1 and 1/2 years, three of them have failed.
- But if you need anything short term, they may be your greatest pet, but I’m going to alter everything and eat out this weekend instead of buying this brand in the near future.
- On August 28, 2019, a verified purchase was reviewed in the United States of America.
- A set of Motorcraft OEM spark plugs was used in conjunction with these.
- If you have purchased these coils in the past from your local retailers, you are aware that a set of 8 pieces will cost you $200, and if you want to go with Motorcraft, each coil will cost you $50.
Hopefully, they’ll be around for a while.
Purchase that has been verified The COP on the right was driving the car, while the COP on the left was a replacement driver.
So far, this product has shown to be reliable.
I own a 2001 Ford F150 Crew Cab 4×4 pickup truck.
4.0 stars out of 5 for this product The pins on this product will need to be repositioned in order to fit properly.
Hei published an article.
The pins on the left are slightly lowered, which I corrected by gently bending them up with a flat head screw driver, and they fit well.
I only gave it four stars since I didn’t had these on for a long enough period of time to provide an accurate lifespan evaluation.
Perhaps later, but I hope not!
If you want the best, go with OEM.
I put the old ones back in, I replaced the one that had burned out, and now these ‘beautiful’ coil packs are ready to be thrown away.
OEM parts cost $75 a piece, however there are no difficulties up to 200K.
verified purchaseReviewed in the United States on May 24, 2019Verified Purchase So far, everything is going well.
It was quite confusing, and all I can say is oh my gosh.
On March 7, 2020, a review was conducted in the United States.
These made a significant difference in the smoothness of the idle and throttle responsiveness.
The fact that it is affordable is an added plus.
5.0 stars out of 5 for this product It’s a good fit On June 3, 2019, Robert posted a blog post. These were purchased for my 2004 Ford Expedition and were a perfect fit with no complications.

a rating of one out of five stars After only a few weeks of use, I had lost two cylinders. On November 21, 2019, a review was conducted in Canada. Purchase that has been verified I had only recently installed these, and at first everything seemed to be running smoothly, but then I lost one of the cylinders. While chugging along on the way home, the engine began to shake to the point that we had to call a tow truck for $200 to get us home. I got it back home, but I misplaced another. The numbers 4 and 6 were no longer there, and there was no power to either ignition coil.
On November 13, 2020, a review will be conducted in Canada.
I looked for replacements locally and discovered that the cost would more than treble, so I decided to get new connections from Amazon instead.
The engine is now as smooth as a Swiss watch.
a rating of one out of five stars You shouldn’t waste any more time and should instead turn to DensoReviewed in Canada on April 5, 2021Verified Purchase Poor quality, they were giving me difficulties with the cylinder and throwing engine codes after a month of usage, I had to replace three of them and now I have four since the wing arm has broken after hitting a large pothole, maybe because the boot was too long.
Denso coils may be purchased through Amazon or Rockauto.

5.0 stars out of 5 for this product Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
Purchase that has been verified These coils performed admirably on my 2004 expedition.
These have the feel, appearance, and weight of high-quality materials.
So far, there have been no problems with the power delivery.
