It’s a pain in the a** to get to the front sensor on the passenger side. Sensors are installed with a 7/8-inch wrench, or they sell sensor-specific equipment.

F150 Coolant Sensor Location
I’ve looked through several forums and am still in need of aid! I have a 2005 Ford F150 4×4 5.4L with an inconsistent reading on the temperature sensor (dashboard). However, while it is operating properly, it drops out frequently (the Check Gauge light glows) and the Air Conditioner ceases to function properly. When I investigated with my local Ford dealer, we discovered that there were two separate sender units. One is placed beneath the intake manifold and is dedicated to the computer. The other is unable to be found (we searched the Ford manuals).
Do you have any suggestions?

Re: F150 Coolant Sensor Location
Postbythefordmaniac» For the guage, it is not referred to as a coolant temperature sensor. It is the cylinder head temperature sensor that is being utilized, and it is placed in the valley of the engine, toward the front of the engine compartment. This sensor is used by the PCM to compute the temperature of the coolant. It’s possible that you’ll be able to get to it if you remove the alternator. Are you certain that the cooling system is operating correctly and that it is fully stocked? On your engine, there is only one sensor that measures the temperature.

Re: F150 Coolant Sensor Location
Postbyrlb4x4» This is the problem I’m having – the components list has two separate sensors, which I’m having trouble figuring out. On the cylinder head, one is placed under the intake manifold on the rear left of the engine and is expressly mentioned in the manual with a graphical representation of the placement on the cylinder head beneath the intake manifold. There is, however, a second sensor, which I have acquired (from the Ford dealer) and which is indicated in the parts list of the 5.4 as being necessary for the gauge to function.
If this is not the case, do I merely need to replace the CHT in order to resolve the gauge malfunctioning?

Re: F150 Coolant Sensor Location
Postbythefordmaniac» It appears that the other sensor is placed in the oil pan, as indicated by the fact that it appears when you search for it on Fordpartsonline. The cht sensor is identified by the part number 6g004 (which is the middle part of the part number, or bas part number in Ford language). The oil temperature sensor has the ID 6c624 on it. You’ll find out by looking at the component number for the sensor. In order to replace this sensor, you will need to remove the intake manifold from the vehicle.

Re: F150 Coolant Sensor Location
Postbyrlb4x4» Thank you, Mike! First, I’ll have a look at the one that is positioned on the oil pan. Because it is not the same one that the dealer had sold me, I am unsure of the nature of the component that they did sell me in the first place. Do you have any troubleshooting techniques for temporarily bypassing these sensors so that you can figure out which one is truly causing the problem? rlb4x4 Posts by new members: 19 Joined at 12:53 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2013. 2005 Ford F-150 4×4 pickup truck Modifications I’ve made to my truck
Re: F150 Coolant Sensor Location
Postbyrlb4x4» It was discovered that the Engine Oil Temperature Sensor had been removed from the oil pan, taped extensively (clearly on purpose), and just left hanging loose with wires attached, which I suspected was intentional. Assuming this is correct, does this indicate there is a hole where it was removed? Now comes the debugging phase: why would they have done this, and how can I determine whether or not the underlying problem exists. By the way, I only bought the truck about a month ago.

Ford F150 F250 Replace Oxygen Sensor How to
Replacement of the oxygen sensor on your Ford F-150 or Super Duty is explained in detail in this article. Cynthia Griffith contributed to this article on November 20, 2014. Car and Driver magazine, Dan Ferrell, and others contributed to this article. This article pertains to the Ford F-150 (2004-2014), as well as the Ford F-250 and F-350 pickup trucks (2005-2014). Even if you don’t notice any symptoms when your check engine light comes on, you’ll need to utilize a code reader to figure out where the problem is coming from.
If you have any of these codes, you should consult a mechanic immediately.
As a result, poor gas mileage may be both a sign of and a potentially serious consequence of a defective oxygen sensor.
Materials Needed
- Two jack stands, a floor jack, and an oxygen sensor
- Penetrating oil
- An oxygen sensor socket
- Thread chaser
Step 1 – Apply penetrating oil to the O2 sensor and let it soak
Locate the malfunctioning oxygen sensor, which should be located in the exhaust manifold, either before or after the catalytic converter, depending on the model. Once the defective sensor has been identified, bathe it in penetrating oil and allow it to soak for at least 24 hours before proceeding with the work. This will make it substantially looser, which will make it easier to remove afterwards. Figure 1 shows the position of the oxygen sensor.
Step 2 – Park and raise your vehicle
Make assured that your car is parked on level ground and that it is in neutral before beginning to elevate your truck with the use of a floor jack and jack stands for additional support. While you elevate the front of the vehicle, make sure to have the parking brake engaged and the back wheels locked for safety. Figure 2: Jack stands are used to secure the truck.
Step 3 – Thread the O2 socket onto the O2 sensor
Using the socket and thread chaser, remove the malfunctioning oxygen sensor from the vehicle. Figure 3 shows an oxygen sensor.
Step 4 – Disconnect the connectors on top of the transmission
The connections are blue and have the same appearance as those shown in Figure 4. Simply squeeze the connections on either side of the connectors and pull them away from each other. Figure 4: Disconnect the oxygen sensor from the rest of the system.
Step 5 – Remove the protective cap from the new sensor
The protective cap that comes with the new sensor should be removed. Figure 5: Remove the protective cover from the device.
Step 6 – Thread the new sensor into the old sensor’s place
Step 3 should be repeated using a socket and a thread chaser to thread the new sensor into the same location as the old sensor.
Figure 6: Insert the replacement sensor via the threaded hole.
Step 7 – Connect the new connector just above the transmission
The new connector should simply snap into place where the old connector had previously been located. The process of replacing the sensor is straightforward once the sensor has been removed and fresh equipment installed in its place, where the malfunctioning equipment was previously located. Figure 7 shows how to connect the oxygen sensor.
Pro Tip
If you have an oxygen sensor that is not working properly, you might fail state emissions. You should replace this component if it continues to fail, since this may indicate the presence of a more significant problem with your exhaust system.
