Six runs were completed starting at 48 kph (30 mph), six runs were completed starting at 80 kph (50 mph), and six runs were completed starting at 113 kph (70 mph). During a period of steady state driving, followed by maximal braking for the final 2.5 seconds before to initiating the event, nondeployment events were intentionally created, with the goal of simulating braking right prior to a crash.

A Racelogic VBOX SL3 differential GPS speed data recorder with a 20 Hz sampling rate functioned as a data acquisition device for vehicle CAN bus speed, accelerator position, RPM, and brake tape switch data, as well as for other vehicle data.

The differences in speed between the RCM and the VBOX are shown and fitted to a linear model using the least squares approach.

Due to the predicted wheel slide during severe braking, the EDR underreports the speed by an average of 3 kph (1.9 mph) as compared to the VBOX GPS, with a worst case of 6.8 kph (4.2 mph) at roughly 60 kph (37.2 mph) at approximately 60 kph (37.2 mph).
