’55 was in the ‘left side rotate left hand thread’ theory of tightening not the bolt stretch methodology we use today.Today’s tire jockeys generally don’t know what that little ‘L’ means either.When I got my car all the left hand lug nuts were stripped out and several studs were broken off.Since I had to replace all, I changed all my lefties over to righties for that reason.So you can’t be too careful, with old stuff in today’s world.I’m sure they tried the impact and were tightening, not loosening.Most intelligent souls would stop after the first one, so it’s beyond me.Most 1/2′ impact tools can easily generate 300+ ft-lbs.So they need to be calibrated against a torque wrench, if used for tightening.Torque wrenches only about +-5%, so it’s not an exact measure.There’s SAE and ISO stds which are close. There’s also dry vs wet torque which really makes most heads spin.But with the advent of steel studs in aluminum, it has to be taken into account.Wet torque can be 50% or so of the dry values.So if they don’t specify, one can be off(over) by 100% if they lube the threads and use a dry spec.Torque check is more important on alloy wheels.The steel rims deform, alloy can crack.But too tight in either case strips threads.FYI:There’s a generalized chart of torque values vs bolt size when you can’t find specs.Logged

Guys, just buy a torque wrench.You can buy a decent one for not a lot of money.Sure, using a factory lug wrench will get them secure, but that tool was designed for an emergency roadside tire change.Not for maintenance.I do all my vehicles at 100 foot lbs, including the 50’s Cadillacs and late model f150.When I had my tires changed on my 50 Cadillac I brought them the wheels two by two (I only own 2 jack stands).I certainly don’t allow anybody to work on my old cars, let alone some chain tire joint.Logged1950 series 61 sedan 1956 coupe de ville

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) in the United States has issued a safety recall for the cars listed below: 2012 – 2021 (in years) (D2) Pickup truck RAM 3500 RAM 3500 Cab (DD) from 2012 to 2021 Chassis RAM 4500/5500 Cab (DP) from 2012 to 2021 Chassis The recall affects cars equipped with flanged lug nuts that may have been overtorqued during service as a result of an erroneous torque specification being used during installation.

A yielded wheel stud may ultimately break, resulting in a wheel coming loose from the vehicle while it is in motion.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will undertake a voluntary safety recall to verify the wheel studs and update the torque parameters in the owner’s manual and published service manuals.

It is anticipated that this recall will begin in the third quarter of 2021.
