Transmission slipping? hesitation?
I must have missed this thread when it was first posted back in April. I simply had to add my car to the list because it’s experiencing a lot of the same issues with the transmission as the others. It’s a 2000 SE, and the first owner said that the transmission performed well for the first 2-1/2 years he had the vehicle. After then, it started to cause issues. At 160,000 miles, he had to have the transmission repaired, and at 180,000 miles, the transmission lost the4 intake valve seat and ruined the4 piston, rod, and cylinder wall.
- At that moment, I purchased the vehicle and began work on the engine.
- The old fluid appeared to be in good condition, and there was little goop in the pan.
- When under severe acceleration, the 2nd to 3rd shift would occasionally emit a loud bang that could be heard for miles.
- When the down shift occurred, it would jerk and the transmission would stall.
- In addition, I purchased a bottle of Lub Guard.
- A significant improvement occurred the longer it remained in the transmission.

What is worse, it results in cruising pressures of 120 to 140 psi, which causes the pump to wear out and the rings and seals to shrink or flatten out, among other things.
When it is rectified, it will never be able to go faster than 155 mph in forward gear.
The minimum pressure will be 50 to 60 psi, and the maximum will be 150 psi.
Allow yourself to not be “tricked out” psychologically by all of these pages.
Here’s why you’re going through with it: Teflon rings shrink in size or become rigid.
The High-Temperature, Low-Shrink Rings, as well as the High-Temperature seals on the transfer gear shaft and input shaft, will prevent the 3/4 clutch leaks that this transmission is prone to.
When the transmission is hot, the clutch pressure should be within 10 pounds of the line at all throttle openings and speeds in third and fourth gears.

There is no modification for the band, but make certain that the drum will turn inside the band.
While the replacement band is curing, the 1-2 shift will be softer than you want while the replacement band is placed.

This decreases the amount of work the pump has to do and prevents the pump from being stuck in either direction.
ADVICE ON THE VALVE BODY: Don’t even think of “passing” the valve body or even flicking the valves a little; it will bite you in the rear end. Transmission Slipping when starting off
I have a 2004 Ford F150 Lariet with 55k miles on the 5.4L V8 engine. When I begin to move, there is a tiny vibration, which appears to be caused by the gearbox slipping slightly. When I’m climbing a hill, this is usually the case. Level terrain, on the other hand, is a different story. Postbydwbauer77» I recently acquired a 2004 Ford F150 5.4L 3V FX4X4 with 54,000 miles on it (it just passed 59,000 miles), and it has the exact same problem. When I initially apply the throttle, there is a tiny hesitation/knock with the tranny, but after that, the truck drives as it normally does. When the truck comes to a complete stop, there is no knock. After reading a slew of TSBs for this vehicle (there were a variety of tranny issues), I decided to take it to the dealer because the extended warranty had one year left on it.
- That’s great, there’s no price.
- The fluid was changed in accordance with the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance plan.
- I’ll keep bringing my truck in until they figure out what’s wrong.

For a month or two, everything is well, but then the problem reappears. After going from slow to real hard in an attempt to figure out what was causing it, I eventually floored it from a stop and the tranny blew apart. I purchased a rebuilt from Ford for $1900 and had a local technician install it for a total cost of $2300, with a three-year, 100,000-mile guarantee.

After having the truck repaired many months ago, the gearbox began to squeak and the mechanic was unable to determine why. When I checked the transmission fluid, it hardly registered on the dip stick. I was surprised. It will have to be returned to the dealership once more. This truck is causing me a great deal of frustration.
