What transmission fluid does Hyundai use?
FRAM Transmission Fluid – Full Synthetic Dexron VI Automatic Transmission Fluid 1 Quart (Part No. F426)
Is gear oil and ATF the same?
Gear oil is also thicker than ATF because it serves mainly to lubricate the gearbox, transfer cases, and differentials. ATF does not have the thick lubrication qualities needed in a manual gearbox, and gear oil does not contain all the additives needed to smoothly run an automatic transmission.
Can you mix transmission fluid with gear oil?
When different types of oils and greases are mixed together, it can spell disaster for machinery. This is why it’s best to avoid mixing lubricants. For example, if you mixed 1 gallon of automatic transmission fluid (ATF) with 300 gallons of gear oil from the same mineral group, the dilution would hardly be noticeable.
How much gear oil does a transmission take?
In general, transmissions take about 9 to 13 quarts to fill completely. The amount of transmission you add will vary, depending on whether you are draining or replacing it all or you are just topping it up. Again, you should avoid adding too much. It is advisable to put in little amounts at a time.
What kind of transmission fluid does a Hyundai Sonata take?
FRAM Transmission Fluid – Full Synthetic Dexron VI Automatic Transmission Fluid 1 Gallon (Part No. F426-1G)
What is ATF SP IV?
ATF SP-IV is a fully synthetic low viscosity automatic transmission fluid designed for 6 speed electronically controlled system of HYUNDAI and KIA passenger cars which require a fluid with SP-IV specification. Delivers fuel efficiency versus the conventional ATFs.
What viscosity is gear oil?
Manual Gearbox The main thing you’ll notice about gear oil is its viscosity. It’s much thicker than motor oil, with an average motor oil being 5W/30 and the average gear oil being 75/90 (see this article for in depth explanation of oil viscosity index).
What is SAE 90 gear oil?
Phillips 66® Transmission Oil SAE 90 is an SAE 90 mineral oil gear lubricant recommended for use in manual transmissions, transfer cases and rear axle assemblies of automotive, farm and off-highway equipment where the manufacturer specifies an API GL-1 gear oil.
What gearbox oil should I use?
The GL-5 is recommended to high-stressed gearboxes in trucks and high power output cars. The owner’s manual of your car will most definitely tell the right GL rating for the transmission. On checking the manual, you might find MT-1 rating recommendation. MT-1 grade oil is used in non-synchronized type gearbox.
Will gear oil hurt a transmission?
Contaminated oil can seriously damage your gearbox, transfer case, or differentials with inadequate lubrication. You should also replace your gear oil if your transfer case or differentials recently had a leak repaired. A leak could signal contamination or low levels of gear oil.
What happens if you mix gear oil weights?
They can react together and form gum gels in the casings. Furthermore, they can sometimes be incompatible and immiscible with other polyglycols.
Is it OK to mix gear oil weights?
You can mix conventional and synthetic gear lubes, they are compatible with each other, and you can mix their viscosities without problem. The resuliting viscosity will just be somewhere between the two viscosities that were mixed together. -When you have a choice, buy American.
How do I know the gearbox oil capacity?
Marks on the gearbox dipstick show the recommended upper and lower limits for the oil level. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it on a clean rag. Replace it, then remove it again to read the oil level. If there is a dipstick it will be marked with the recommended oil level.
How many Litres of transmission oil do I need?
Depending on the make of your car and several other factors, vehicles take an average of 4 to 17 US quarts ( 3.8 to 16 liters ) of transmission fluid to fill. It is best to refer to the car’s service manual for the specific amount of transmission fluid it needs.
How many quarts are in a transmission?
Most passenger vehicles take from 12 to 16 quarts of transmission fluid, but the model of the vehicle dictates the type and how much. While many vehicles come with a dipstick to check the transmission fluid, there are other models that do not.

Application
Oil that is semi-synthetic It is one of the most well-known goods on the automobile industry, the Hyundai ATF SP III. In addition, Hyundai ATF transmission oil is the original lubricant for automatic gearboxes in Korean automobiles manufactured at the Hyundai facility in South Korea. The oil is designed for use only in Hyundai and Kia cars equipped with a four-, five-, or six-speed automatic gearbox. It should not be used in any other vehicle. It is important to note that the automatic transmissions in Hyundai vehicles are equipped with a Lock-Up Clutch mechanism, which is essentially a locking clutch.
Therefore, in order for the automatic transmission to function correctly, only ATF type transmission fluid should be used in conjunction with it.
Conclusion
The genuine Hyundai ATF SP III transmission oil is a high-quality, high-tech product with a long shelf life and excellent performance. By using Hyundai semi-synthetic lubricant in the automatic gearbox, you can ensure that the automatic transmission will operate for a long period of time and without interruption. There are a handful of crucial factors to consider while determining the authenticity of the Hyundai ATF SP IIIoil. For starters, the date of the spill is imprinted on the canister with a laser seal, which makes it impossible to counterfeit it with a sticker created at a printing company.
In addition, it is important to pay attention to the words on the label.
Furthermore, because the label’s stickers are adhered to the surface with a specific glue, it is difficult to remove.

I used it to fill the gearbox of my Hyundai Azera, which now shifts smoothly and does not tremble while the car is parked in D. Thank you, Ravenol; your atf sp iv fluid is of the same or better quality than the original equipment manufacturer’s fluid.
Good quality ATF
I’m a professional auto technician, and I know what’s best for my automobile. My 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport has this ATF, and it appears that I made the proper decision in purchasing it. The bottle is equipped with a funnel of its own. My transmission shifts quite smoothly, and the car handles well on the highway. It’s a very high-quality automatic transmission fluid for my 6-speed automatic gearbox.
AUTOMATIC VS MANUAL TRANSMISSION FLUID – IS THERE A DIFFERENCE?
The following are critical aspects of ATF performance:
- Because of its heat resistance and thermal stability, it can assist to prevent deposits and sludge from accumulating as a result of high temperatures. Transmission clutches and bands must have the appropriate frictional qualities in order for smooth gear shifts to be achieved. Exceptional pressure/load bearing capability to provide long-term anti-wear and gear longevity. Maintaining viscosity stability or maintaining adequate fluid thickness throughout a broad temperature range
- Low temperature flow is required to guarantee that hydraulics and electronic controllers operate properly at low temperatures.
Transmissions with continuously variable transmissions (CVTs) Instead of having distinct gear shifts like a traditional automatic gearbox, CVT transmissions feature continually shifting speed ratio. CVTs can also aid in the improvement of fuel efficiency. CVTs are often seen in hybrid automobiles, however they are also found in non-hybrid vehicles on occasion as well. In order to maintain appropriate performance and protection, it is always recommended to use a CVT-specific fluid. The color of CVT fluid varies depending on the manufacturer, however Castrol Transmax CVT Fluid is red.
What kind of transmission fluid does my car take?
Transmissions with Continuously Variable Torque (CVTs) Instead of having distinct gear shifts like a traditional automatic gearbox, a CVT has continually shifting speed ratio. Using a CVT can also help you get better gas mileage. CVTs are typically seen in hybrid cars, although they are also found in non-hybrid vehicles on occasion, such as pickup trucks.
To maintain appropriate performance and protection, a CVT-specific fluid should always be used. CVT fluid does not come in a conventional color, although Castrol Transmax CVT Fluid is red in color.
What are the signs of low transmission fluid?
Noise, clutch slippage, overheating of clutch components, and unpleasant shifting are all possible consequences of low fluid levels. The importance of following the manufacturer’s recommendations and having your gearbox serviced at the prescribed intervals cannot be overstated.
Checking Transmission Fluid
Almost all transmission fluids may be checked with the cap and dipstick located under the hood of the vehicle. Check your owner’s handbook for instructions on how to properly check the transmission fluid level.

M/T fluid
If you can find a nice synthetic, use it; just make sure it’s GL-4 and not GL-5 to avoid confusion. As previously reported by sbr711, GL-5 will cause the transmission to be trashed. Unfortunately, most of the men at the parts store are unaware of the distinction between GL-4 and GL-5. They’ll attempt to convince you that it’s the same thing – but it isn’t. I’m using Amsoil full synthetic 75W-90 GL-4, and the difference is night and day in performance. If you have the opportunity, give it a chance.
- why?
- – When you’re filling the tank, get some inexpensive tubing.
- Simply pour oil down the tube until it begins flowing out around the fill hole, rather than worrying about how to get it into a horizontal hole with very little space surrounding it.
- – You’re probably fine with a 07, but check the clutch fluid to make sure it’s clean.
There isn’t much worse than being stuck with a clutch that you can’t use. Ideally, this would be an excellent time to flush it out, but make sure you bleed it correctly. The procedure is identical to that of brakes, and the object requires brake fluid as well.

The changing of the manual gearbox oil in your 2021 Hyundai Tucson may be completed in your driveway. The entire process will take around 30 – 60 minutes and will save you approximately $100. On the gearbox, there are two plugs: the drain plug, which is located at the bottom, and the refill plug, which is located on the side. The first step is to remove the refill plug, followed by the removal of the drain plug. Use a spanner or a retched with the appropriate size head to tighten the bolt. After the oil has been drawn up, replace the drain plug with a new gasket.

Transmission Fluid Types
Automatic transmissions rely on a particular type of oil known as Automatic Transmission Fluid, or ATF, to function properly. Lubrication, cooling, and clutch application are just a few of the functions performed by this fluid in a transmission system. ATF even supplies the connection between the engine and transmission, which is accomplished through the use of a torque converter, which is a hydraulic coupling. When squeezed between the clutches, ATF works as a ‘glue,’ increasing friction and holding capacity to propel the car forward.
- That is why keeping that fluid in good condition may be so important to transmission longevity.
- Type F was reserved for Fords, while Type A was reserved for everything else, according to conventional thinking.
- At this time, there are four primary varieties of fluid available on the market.
- So, how can you find out what kind of transmission your vehicle has?
It will tell you exactly which ATF the manufacturer recommends for your particular vehicle type. On the dipstick, you may also find a recommendation for more reading. Either of these sources is a suitable resource for finding the proper transmission fluid for your transmission.
Fluid Types
The following is a list of the many types of fluids, as well as the fundamental distinctions between them:
- If you take a brief tour around your local parts store, you’ll see that type ‘F’ is still in use today. The main problem is that it is no longer used by nearly everyone. Type F transmissions were intended for Fords that used bronze clutches
- The Cruizematic was the final transmission manufactured with bronze clutches, and it was last used in the early 1970s. Unless you’re talking about a historic automobile or an antique, you can be quite certain that your vehicle does not utilize Type F
- Dexron III/Mercon -This is one of the most widely used transmission fluids on the market. This type of ATF is required by the majority of General Motors and Ford vehicles, as well as many imports. If your owner’s handbook suggests any kind of Dexron or any Mercon – other than Mercon V – this is the fluid you should use
- Otherwise, use the recommended fluid. HFM-Style Fluids -HFM is an abbreviation for Highly Friction Modified, and it refers to a fluid that has friction properties that differ from those of Dexron III/Mercon. This fluid is marketed under a variety of various names, including Chrysler’s ATF+ (also known as 7670) and others. Other producers who make use of HFM ATF include as follows:
- Honda/Acura
- sJeep/Eagle
- sHyundai
- sToyota/Lexus
- sSaturn
- sSterling
Are these fluids interchangeable with one another? They have every right to be. They must be, according to logic. However, to be on the safe side, always use the precise fluid that the manufacturer recommends. Several manufacturers have begun to phase out the usage of organically derived fluids in favor of synthetically derived fluids in order to reduce environmental impact. Tests on synthetics so far have revealed that they share similar friction-modifying characteristics to Dexron III/Mercon, but that they are more resistant to heat, cold, oxidation, and sheering than Dexron III/Mercon.
A contributing factor to the elimination of the transmission dipstick is the use of synthetic lubricants, which are more popular.
Will they be effective?
Only time will tell if this is true.
If the manual specifies Mercon V, the synthetic fluid is being requested; if the manual specifies Mercon without the V, the regular Dexron III/Mercon ATF is being requested.
