It is the rate at which bits of computer data are delivered over a serial data stream or on the controller area network (CAN) bus that is measured in bits per second. A bus is another term for the fundamental circuit that connects all of the modules of a vehicle and transmits data between them. The Controller Area Network (CAN) bus is another name for this vehicle. CAN stands for Controller Area Network, and it is the bus circuit that allows all of the modules in the vehicle to interact with one another.

  1. Closed Loop: An operating mode of the fuel feedback control system in which the powertrain control module uses the rich/lean signal from the oxygen sensor to control the fuel mixture.
  2. Closed loop is not normally activated until the oxygen sensor is sufficiently heated to generate a signal and the engine has reached a specific operating temperature.
  3. It is possible for a defective coolant sensor, oxygen sensor, or thermostat to prevent the engine from entering closed loop operation.
