P0507 and Idle relearn procedure Nissan? (Perfect answer)

  • ECM sets a P0507 trouble code, requiring an idle speed relearn procedure. Late model Nissan engines are equipped with an electronic throttle body. The ECM commands a throttle plate opening to maintain the lowest possible idle speed based on engine temperature. This is called the target engine speed.

How do you relearn a Nissan idle?

Turn the ignition switch on and wait 3 seconds. Immediately after the 3 seconds, the accelerator pedal must be pressed and released 5 times within 5 seconds. Wait 7 seconds and fully press the accelerator pedal and hold for approximately 20 seconds until the check engine light stops blinking and stays on.

How do I fix error P0507?

What repairs can fix the P0507 code?

  1. Replacing or cleaning the idle air valve.
  2. Repairing the intake air leak.
  3. Repairing the charging system.
  4. Cleaning the throttle body.
  5. Replacing the power steering pressure switch.

How do I relearn my IAC valve?

A. Idle Relearn

  1. Start the engine in Park/Neutral. Rev the engine to above 2,500rpm and hold for 10-15 seconds.
  2. Slowly reduce throttle back to idle.
  3. The ECU should now begin to learn the idle position (you will hear the sucking sound through the throttle body change as the Idle Air Control Motor changes position).

How do you reset the idle on a 2007 Nissan Altima?

How to Do a Nissan Altima Idle Relearn

  1. Without stepping on the gas pedal, turn the ignition switch to on and wait at least two seconds, then turn the ignition switch off and wait 10 seconds.
  2. Turn the ignition switch on again and wait two seconds, then off again for 10 seconds.

How do I fix code P0505?

What repairs can fix the P0505 code?

  1. Replacing the IAC valve and cleaning the throttle body and passages.
  2. Removing carbon from throttle body and IAC passages and clean IAC.
  3. Repairing a vacuum leak in the engine intake manifold vacuum system or gaskets.

What is code P0505?

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0505 stands for “ Idle Control System.” The code may be accompanied by erratic idle speeds that can lead to stalling and other issues. On most older vehicles, the idle control system relies on an idle air control valve (IAC) on or near the throttle body.

How much does it cost to fix a idle control valve?

The replacement cost of an idle control valve is anywhere from $120 to $500. The cost of the parts alone will be between $70 and $400+, depending on the make and model of your vehicle. The labor cost should only be around $50 to $100 because it doesn’t take that long to remove and replace the old idle control valve.

How do you recalibrate a throttle body?

Accelerator Pedal Release Position Learning Procedure. Make sure that the accelerator pedal is fully released. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.

How do you adjust the idle on a throttle body?

Turn the idle screw, now exposed from the protective rubber coating, in order to adjust the idle. Loosen the screw in a counter-clockwise fashion to increase idle speed or tighten it in a clockwise manner in order to decrease the idle speed. Ideally, you will want the idle to rest at 650 RPM.

How do you reset the throttle body on a 2003 Nissan Altima?

2003 Nissan Altima Idle Relearn

  1. Drive the car to “warm up” temperature.
  2. Turn the car ignition key to “OFF”
  3. Wait ten seconds.
  4. Turn the key to “ON” (not start)
  5. Wait three seconds.
  6. Fully press and release the gas pedal 5 times within five seconds.

What happens if you unplug IAC?

If it works properly, stopping it would cause panic to your inactive engine. Normally, if you turn on your car, the inactive air control valve will increase and decrease the rpms engine slowly.

How do you adjust the idle speed on a Nissan Frontier?

Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature. Rev engine (2,000-3,000 rpm) two o three times under no-load (A/C OFF, headlights OFF, radio OFF), then run the engine at idle speed. Adjust the idle speed by turning the idle speed adjusting screw.

What causes code P0507?

The P0507 code is triggered when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects that the engine is idling higher than the specified idle rpm range. The standard engine idle is usually between 600-800rpm based on the model of the vehicle.

P0507 and Idle relearn procedure Nissan

Carburetor carbon buildup may progress to the point where the ECM generates a P0507 trouble code, necessitating the use of an idle speed relearn procedure to correct the problem. Nissan engines from the last few years have been equipped with an electronic throttle body. Depending on the engine temperature, the ECM commands a throttle plate opening in order to maintain the lowest possible idle speed. The target engine speed is the speed at which the engine should be running. The target speed is determined by taking into consideration factors such as engine temperature, declaration, engine loads such as air conditioning, power steering, cooling fan, and other electrical loads, among others.

After a certain point, the ECM is unable to compensate and generates a P0507 trouble code in the process.

Cleaning an electronic throttle body is just part of the procedure

To clean the electronic throttle body, you must first remove it from the vehicle. Use a clean rag to wipe the carbon off the throat and the throttle plate after applying throttle body cleaner on it. Never, ever spray throttle body cleaner directly onto the throttle plate, as this might cause damage. The cleaning has the potential to wick into the circuitry and cause harm. Once the throttle body has been cleaned, it should be reinstalled on the intake manifold with a new gasket and torqued according to manufacturer’s specifications.

Four-step Nissan Idle relearn procedure

A three-step procedure is used, beginning with the removal of the accelerator pedal, followed by the relearning of the throttle valve closed state, and lastly the learning of the idle air volume.

Nissan accelerator pedal released relearn

Turn the key to the ON position while lifting your foot off the brake pedal and wait for two seconds. Turn the key to the OFF position and wait at least 10-seconds before continuing. Turn the ignition key to the ON position and wait at least 2-seconds. Immediately turn the key to the OFF position and wait at least 10 seconds. Turn the ignition key to the ON position and wait at least 2-seconds. Immediately turn the key to the OFF position and wait at least 10 seconds.

Nissan Throttle valve closed learning position

Turn the key to the ON position and then the OFF position while keeping your foot off the pedal. Wait at least ten seconds before continuing. To ensure that the throttle plate is moving, listen for the sound of the throttle body motor turning.

Nissan Idle air volume relearn

You must complete all of the preliminary stages before to doing the idle air relearn, or else the procedure will not function. At idle, the battery voltage must be more than 12.9 volts. Engine and transmission should be completely warmed up, with the transmission in park or neutral. The engine and gearbox have completed their warm-up. The value from the transmission temperature sensor must be less than 0.9 volts. Transmission in Park or Neutral—vehicle has come to a complete halt All electrical loads are included.

  1. Turn the key on for EXACTLY 3-seconds, then immediately depress the pedal FIVE times within 5 SECONDS to complete the circuit.
  2. If the check engine light does not illuminate after 20 seconds, the key should be turned to the OFF position.
  3. Once the check engine light begins to blink, let it to continue to flicker until it ultimately comes on STEADY.
  4. Allow it to sit idle.

Allow the engine to idle for 20 seconds or until you detect a decrease in engine RPM (whichever comes first). Rick Muscoplat has a new year’s resolution. Rick Muscoplat posted a blog entry on

Nissan Idle Relearn Procedure

Modern Nissan automobiles are equipped with an electronic throttle body (ETB), which is completely controlled by the vehicle’s on-board computer. You will need to have the computer re-learn the position of the throttle plate after replacing an ETB in order for the vehicle to retain the proper idle speed. Other maintenance, such as a battery replacement and an ETB clean-up, might sometimes cause the idle to act up unexpectedly. This issue may cause the Service Engine Soon light (also known as the ‘check engine light’) to illuminate and the trouble code P0507 – Idle speed control system RPM to be greater than intended to be stored.

  1. STEP 1: LEARNING THE POSITION OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL RELEASE 1) Do not depress the accelerator pedal until the car has stopped.
  2. 3) Hold the key in the ‘OFF’ position for 10 seconds before releasing it.
  3. 5) Hold the key in the OFF position for 10 seconds before turning it back on.
  4. 3) Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and listen for the throttle body to make a whining sound.
  5. 2) While the car is at idle, check to see that the battery voltage is more than 12.9 volts.
  6. 4) Turn off the car.
  7. 6) Do not pressure the accelerator pedal at any point.

8) Quickly press the accelerator pedal five times in five seconds to accelerate.

10) The check engine light should be illuminated.

12) When the engine light stops flashing, immediately depress the accelerator pedal for three seconds.

14) Rev the engine a couple of times.

16) Verify that the check engine light is not on.

The importance of timing cannot be overstated.

Before beginning the operation, the Service Engine Soon light must be turned off for at least 30 seconds by detaching the battery wire from the vehicle.

If the idle starts acting up all of a sudden, it is possible that something else is causing the problem.

Given that there are no special instruments required for the technique, you should go ahead and try it to see whether it solves the problem for you.

However, if the same ailment persists or recurs, you can begin identifying the condition based on the codes recorded in the notes you took before to the surgery.

P0507 Idle Control System RPM Higher Than Expected

I took my 2004 Nissan Altima to a local lube shop about three months ago to get the oil changed in the vehicle. Following a thorough inspection of my vehicle, the technician advised that I get my fuel injection system serviced. I gave him the go-ahead because I was naive enough to believe in him. My service engine light illuminated two days later and has stayed illuminated ever since. When I returned my car, the mechanics assured me that everything was alright and that the Nissan electrical systems were finicky, and that the light will turn off after a few drive cycles.

  1. An employee at this business informed me that a fuel injection service on a Nissan should never be conducted since the throttle is electronic and manually cleaning it might cause the entire electrical system to malfunction.
  2. I listened to them.
  3. The material or website must demonstrate that fuel injection services for Nissan vehicles should not be conducted, or the written documentation must demonstrate that badly executed fuel injection services can result in the throttle malfunctioning or breaking.
  4. I am by no means an automotive specialist, and I feel like I have been taken advantage of in this situation.

r/Nissan – 03 Altima – Idle Relearn Procedure not engaging (p0507)

Hello, everyone! This is something I wrote on tor/Cartalk, but, I thought I’d ask you guys as well. The current issue is with our 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5, which just had the p0507 code lifted, which indicated that the ‘idle speed was greater than planned.’ The Altima, on the other hand, is now idling at 700/800 rpms while running on this code. I withdrew the throttler and cleaned it nonetheless, and then I did the ‘ Idle Relearn Procedure’ as described above (necessary because now the idle throttles between 1000 and 2000 rpms)

  1. Check to see that the accelerator pedal has been fully depressed. Wait 3 seconds after turning the ignition on but before starting the engine. To switch off the ignition, press the button again and wait 10 seconds. Repeat this method three more times. Within 5 seconds, fully depress and fully release the accelerator pedal five times. Wait 5 seconds before depressing and holding the accelerator pedal completely. When the Malfunction indication light has been blinking for about 10 seconds, it will change from steady to blinking. It takes around 9 seconds after that for the light to go from blinking to steady once more. Within three seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and the automobile will begin to move. Allow for some downtime. Wait 20 seconds before continuing.

What I’m having trouble with is that I’ve completed this procedure ten times already and have yet to see the flashing check engine light described in step 4. There wasn’t even a gleam in her eye. What do you think I’m doing wrong, and how can I fix it? I have attempted to reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery over night while the +/ buttons were pressed on the keyboard. There is still nothing. Thank you so much for your assistance! The check engine light came on a few days ago, and I need to get this thing ready for its inspection the next week:/.

Code P0507 High Idle after TB Cleaning

That being said, I’ve completed this procedure ten times and have yet to see the flashing check engine light described in step 4. Even a gleam in the eye is missing. You’re probably right, but what exactly am I doing incorrectly? Additionally, I attempted to reset the ECU by removing the battery over night while the + and buttons were pressed.

Despite repeated efforts, nothing has changed. I appreciate you assisting me! The check engine light came on a few of days ago, and I need to get this vehicle ready for its inspection next week:/.

code P0507 – high idle

Greetings, gentlemen. Nissan Murano SL AWD (2003 model year) Okay, so it all started with my P0303 misfire cylinder 3 error code. While I was there, I changed the 1, 3, and 5coil packs, as well as the three spark plugs, all of which had 100,000 mile Iridiums. When I can afford three more coils, I’ll be able to easily and quickly add the remaining three without any difficulty. I did not separate the intake manifold and plenum in this project. I removed them in one piece from the rest of the outfit.

  • While I waited for the components to arrive, I sprayed ‘Throttle Body and Mass Air Flow’ cleaner inside the throttle body to clear it rid of any debris that had accumulated.
  • Skip ahead to the point where, after reassembling everything, I now have an idle speed of around 1,100 to 1,200 RPM and the SES indicator on.
  • When I reassembled the car, I double-checked and triple-checked to make sure I didn’t miss anything along the way.
  • I’ve looked and looked, and I’ve looked some more, the best I can with everything put back together, and I can’t find anything I missed.
  • I purchased a can of carb cleaning and sprayed it all over the engine, including the base of the intake manifold, but I saw no difference in RMP after doing so.
  • According to what I’ve read on the good ole internet, a code should be expected when you clean out the throttle body, and the new high RPMs are due to the fact that the air flow through the clean throttle body is quicker.
  • That’s exactly what I did.

This is where I require assistance.

I go through the method of relearning the idle air volume a second time, and the idle returns to normal.

The same process is repeated, the idle returns to normal, and the light remains on.

There were no evident vacuum leaks heard, and carb cleaner poured all over the engine, including the base of the intake manifold, revealed no leaks.

By the way, when re-torquing the intake manifold, I made sure to go through the process in the appropriate order, gently tightening each bolt.

That didn’t seem to be quite enough, so I added another 1/4 turn to each side and left it at that point.

Being able to get the idle speed down to normal but then having it revert to high idle after a short period of driving is what has me perplexed at this point. Any suggestions on where to look next would be much appreciated! Thank you so much, gentlemen.

How To: Idle Air Volume Learning (Easy Way)

When the Electric Throttle Control Actuator (Throttle Body) or the ECU is detached from the wire harness, the idle speed must be re-learned since the idle speed has been lost. A high idle in park or in neutral of more than 1500 RPM, as well as a pulsating idle that goes high and low repeatedly, can be resolved using this approach as well as the previous one. 650-750 RPM should be the idle speed for the Nissan Versa when in park or neutral, according to the manufacturer. This technique may be found in its formal form here; however, I discovered that it is quite time-sensitive and that it was much easier to do it in the following manner: The following are some tools:* Stop Watch or Stop Watch App for Smartphone Preparation: Driving Versa for 10 minutes will let the engine and transmission to become more comfortable.

  • 3.
  • Procedure:* The processes that follow are time-sensitive, and if they are not completed correctly, they must be restarted from the beginning.

(The second click corresponds to the on position.) When the stopwatch reaches 3 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and fully depress it again five times until the stopwatch reaches 8 seconds (In terms of timing, the only thing that counts is that it be completed 5 times within 3 and 8 seconds on the stop watch.) 4.

When the stopwatch reaches 35 seconds on the second hand, completely depress the accelerator pedal and quickly start the engine.

After 60 seconds on the stop watch, rev the engine 2-3 times, making sure that the tachometer returns to between 650 and 750 RPM each time.

Sparky’s Answers – 2004 Nissan Altima, P0507 Surging / High Idle

This 2004 Nissan Altima 2.5S came in with a high cold idle followed by a high and surging warm idle. A few of the things I noticed right away was a fairly new battery. And a new starter assembly. I wanted to take a look at the throttle body, so I removed the intake tube by loosening the clamp at the Mass Air Flow sensor. Then the clamp at the throttle body. I had to disconnect the vent tube to the valve cover and this hose that is the transmission vent hose. It is very important that this hose be put back in place when the intake tube is reinstalled.

  1. Notice the run marks left by throttle body cleaner being sprayed into the air horn.
  2. I do not have a Nissan Consult II scan tool so I needed to perform a manual relearn procedure for Idle Air Volume.
  3. I wanted to document the relearn procedure step by step so I started again with the factory procedure as given by Mitchell.
  4. Along with some general clarification.
  5. First of all, IF the battery, ECM or throttle body has been disconnected these conditions may all have to be performed to stabilize the idle and remove the code P0507.
  6. If other codes are present diagnose and repair those problems first.
  7. Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning Procedure This procedure allows the ECM to learn the fully released position of the APP sensor (Accelerator Pedal Position) (Accelerator Pedal Position).

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

There is nothing else stated, so my assumption was to start the engine.

It must be performed after either the throttle body or ECM harness has been disconnected.

Ensure that the accelerator pedal is fully released.

Turn the ignition switch on.

Turn the ignition off and wait at least 10 seconds.

Again my assumption is to start the engine at this point.

3.The above relearning needs to be completed.

There must not be anyproblems with the APP sensor.

4.Turn the ignition off and wait at least 10 seconds.

6.Turn the ignition on and wait 3 seconds.

Leaving the pedal in the released position.

During this time the SES lightwill start blinking.

The factory information states that the nextstep will be for the SES light to turn off.

10.With the engine running at 1000 rpm or less allow the engine to runfor at least 20 seconds.

After the 20 second wait period, rev the engine to 3000rpm two or three times and allow the engine to settle back down toidle.

Idle and timing should now both be withinspecifications.

11.If all criteria are not met the relearn will not work.

If your warm idle speed is above 1000 rpm and it needs to be dropped to perform the Idle Air Volume Relearn, you must disconnect the wiring harness to no more than two fuel injectors.

I used long needle nosed pliers to do this.

Now number four injector is disconnected.

To my surprise the engine ran fairly well and dropped to about 800 rpm.

I then reconnected the injector harnesses and performed the IAVR again.

Finally all is well again with this Nissan. I used these pliers to release the injector connectors. I had to switch to these to reconnect them. Yes, this is a medical device, but you can get them at flea markets and thrift stores.

Idle Air Volume Learning (will not work)

Last week, I cleaned the throttle body, installed a new maf, and performed other routine maintenance tasks that I intended to do before the season began. Initially, I was apprehensive about touching the throttle body, but upon closer inspection, I saw that it was really dusty, and I cleaned it out using throttle body cleaning and a microfiber cloth. My manual throttle valve movement and cleaning behind it and everywhere else was successful, but I did not remove the throttle body assembly from the intake manifold during the process.

As a result, I followed all of the processes for the relearn: 1.

Learning the Released Position of the Accelerator Pedal 3.

Learning the Volume of Idle Air The rpm will not drop below 800-900 rpm no matter what I do, and I can hear my truck idle at a high RPM because of my exhaust arrangement.

I spoke with a local Nissan technician, who informed me that I may have harmed my Tb by physically shifting the plate, and that I should avoid doing so in the future.

No matter how hard I tried, the learning technique would not be accepted.

I just wanted to provide an update to everyone since I was able to address the idle air volume issue that had occurred throughout the idle air volume learning method.
