In certain light duty pick-up trucks and sport utility vehicles, the space between the front right-hand brake pipe and the body cross sill is so narrow that it may be compromised to the point of enabling contact to occur. If there is contact and the brake pipe is destroyed, there may be a loss of brake fluid and pressure in the braking system. When the brake fluid lever approaches the limit indicated by the indicator, the brake warning bulb will illuminate. In order to reduce stopping distances, the brake pedal will be depressed more than usual.
Dealers will check the brake pipe on the front right-hand side for signs of wear.
A spacer clip will be installed in order to guarantee that there is sufficient clearance between the brake pipe and the body cross sill if there are no symptoms of wear on the pipe.
