Although oil consumption would not directly cause bearing failure, oil consumption that resulted in a low oil level or pressure might cause the bearings to fail. Also, I see in Full Race that the PCV valve should be gutted, but I’m not sure why this is necessary.

However, a new complaint, filed on January 6, is explicitly targeting the 5.0-liter V-8 engine and its high oil consumption, among other things. Models from 2018 to 2020 are affected. CarComplaints.com reports that the owners who filed the lawsuit claim that the excessive oil consumption causes the engine to fail at any speed (even potentially when traveling at highway speeds) and that Ford is concealing this fact from consumers by not disclosing it to them.
This litigation is still in its very early stages, and it is unlikely that we will see much progress on it in the near future. But let’s have a look at some of the most important elements. The following are the specific allegations made in the lawsuit:
- There is a fault in the F-150 engines that allows oil to enter the combustion chambers, where it is burnt off and decreases the quantity of oil in the engine
- This is a safety issue. In terms of fuel economy, there is a decline. Carbon deposits build up inside the engine, causing damage to the ignition and exhaust components, among other things. There are also flaws in the assembly of the piston and piston ring, which allows engine oil to reach the combustion chamber. Instead of being removed from the combustion cycle and being burnt and consumed, the engine oil gets eaten.

In January 2021, a class action lawsuit against Ford was filed on behalf of owners and lessees of FordF-150 trucks with the 5.0L Coyote engines from the model years 2018 through 2020. Unfortunately, it appears that even Ford is having difficulty determining the root source of this problem. I’ve heard of a couple instances when dealers replaced the cylinder heads, but that didn’t seem to help. I’m confident that the administrators will keep this topic updated with any new information that comes their way, since this appears to be a very severe problem

I had 3000 miles on the vehicle and the covers were cracked. The motor had lost two quarts of oil. My 2019 Limited (which I purchased in March) had 3K miles on the odometer when the check engine light came on! When I tried to accelerate above 50 MPH, I experienced severe power loss and the boost levels were nearly completely depleted, just like everyone else. Dealer was closed at the time, so he hobbled home and scheduled an appointment for the following morning with the customer. It was the next morning when I started my vehicle and drove away that I realized the truck was like new again! In any case, I went to the dealer to seek a diagnostic. The dealer performed an OBD scan and discovered P0365 and P0369 codes

- The engine (3.5 EcoBoost) was down one quart of oil. Therefore. The Motor Company replaced the valve covers after 3000 miles (the so-called remedy), but 1 quart of oil went within the next 4100 miles even after the valve covers were replaced. This is on the exact same path that my 2007 CVO Harley put me on in terms of motor difficulties, which included five crate motors in three months while still under warranty. The 110 cubic inch motor, on the other hand, was introduced in that year, and as many Harley owners are aware, once you acquire a motorcycle, you become an unpaid member of the Research and Development Team. I arrived at my destination and parked. After that, Saturday (which is not a good day for major service at my local Ford dealership) came and went with the check engine light remaining illuminated. As a result, I didn’t get in touch with Ford until Monday morning. When I started my truck, the check engine light was still illuminated. Curiosity got the better of me, so I plugged in an ODB Reader to see if it would output any kind of noteworthy code. Yes, it did! It informed me that a malfunction had been found by my crank shaft sensor. That sparked some ideas in my head. So I checked my oil levels on the dash display, and everything appeared to be in proper working order (pressure, etc.). After that, I checked the actual oil levels, and my stomach dropped! One of my @!$*! percent * oil levels had dropped by about three quarts. It’s possible that I would have seized my engine! I changed the depleted oil right away, and the engine was back up to normal operating levels in no time. WTF! What is the fate of the oil? There are no obvious leaks in or around the engine compartment

My 2014 Ecoboost has just had its second oil change, which I completed today. I was not pleased to learn that it had lost half a gallon in 5000 miles. Despite the fact that I am fully aware that this is within acceptable limits, is typical, and so on, my 15-year-old Brand X vehicle with 195,000 miles on it required less oil. My 2011 SUV from the same Brand X has traveled 5,000 miles without consuming any detectable amounts of oil. According to the handbook, I was using Motorcraft syn-blend in conjunction with a Motorcraft filter.
There is a possibility that gas pollution in the crankcase oil is resulting in the excessive oil consumption.
However, for a variety of reasons, aviation engines do not have the same longevity as automobile engines.

The 2019 Ford F-150 is experiencing an Engine Burning Oil fault as of 2021-02-19. Failure date is set on May 13, 2020. It consumes at least 2 quarts of oil every 1500 to 2000 miles since I purchased the car, and it has gone through 2 plus quarts of oil within 1500 to 2000 miles of each oil change I have made since I purchased the vehicle. I believe a solution has been discovered, which may be tied to the PCV system. I’m not sure whether the most recent TSB has anything to do with PCV, but it may. Catch cans are entirely unnecessary on the 5.0, both because they are not required, as Skyactiv mentioned, and because the combination port injection and direct injection make it unnecessary. It did consume around half a quart of fuel between changes up to approximately 8,500 miles. - The fact that they had an INTERNAL oil consumption problem was eventually revealed after the first visit in April of 2018 and the second visit in January of 2019 confirmed what I had been telling them all along.
- Before I drove 5000 miles, I was using 3.5-4 quarts of oil.
- Ford authorized the repair and the expense of a loaner truck for the length of the repair while the vehicle was still under factory warranty.
- Is it possible that the Ford Lima, Ohio facility did not have Cylinder Heads on hand?
- It was necessary for me to call Ford Customer Service Center and request that they REPLACE my whole engine owing to difficulties with oil consumption and BEARING Failure that might occur in the coming months of operation.

The low engine pressure indicator came on while traveling out of town on city streets at speeds ranging from 40 to 450 miles per hour. On a few occasions, this occurred on an intermittent basis. In an effort to avoid more damage, I drove the car to the Ford dealership, where I was informed that the oil intake pump had failed and that it would need to be replaced. The next day, I was informed that there was a TSB for this problem and that the engine, which had only 3300 miles on it, would have to be replaced.
Because my vehicle is presently in the possession of the dealership, I am currently awaiting the outcome of the investigation.
I have no desire to own a brand new truck with an engine that has been ‘repaired.’ In my opinion, it will be intolerable if Ford does not replace the engine.

Just a couple of hundred miles into my brand new 2016 2.7 ecoboost, I observed that it was devouring oil at a pace of around one quart per 1000 to 1100 miles. It has only recently completed its first oil change. I told the service representative that the information had fallen on deaf ears and that they couldn’t have cared less. Now I understand why. According to Ford, I’m simply a huge, dumb animal who is just there to pay for and drive the car they’ve built for them. On rare occasions, it would emit blue smoke from the exhaust pipe.
- I was never able to get it on camera or to appear at the dealerships.
- Since discovering that Ford built an unknown number of 2.7 ecoboost F-150s in 2015 and 2016 with known head gasket concerns, the company has let consumers to continue driving the cars until the problem is reported to the dealership.
- The dealers evaluate if the engine has been running with low oil pressure for an excessive amount of time and, if necessary, change the block.
- The advantage is that you don’t know if the crate engine you receive came from the same batch of poor built engines as the one you already have.
- You will lose your warranty miles and time as a result of this.

2016 Ford F-150 2.7L EcoBoost V6. 3000 miles and 1 1/2 quarts of oil have been consumed. At 5000 miles, I’d burned up another half gallon of gas. When the engine is started, it emits smoke. Ford Dealership in Vernal, UT informed me that there are issues with the block and that it is necessary to replace the engine. REALLY? It’s a lease, and I’d like to go on to something else. Smoky Joe was the name given to it. The O’MERA FORD dealership in Denver is in the process of converting this vehicle to a smokeless model.

My Ford F-150 with the 2.7 EcoBoost has already consumed about 8 quarts of oil over the course of 6600 miles. Because to the engine shutting down during a pass (duh, stupid ass feature), an illuminated warning light flashed, reading ‘LOW ENGINE OIL PRESSURE.’ I was driving and stopped for the night; the next morning, I checked the oil and saw that there was NO OIL ON DIPSTICK, NOTHING AT ALL. While in Cortez, Colorado, I brought it to the dealer so they could check and see how low it really was.
- So by the time I returned home and presented it to my dealer, the qt had dropped another quart at 5200 miles.
- I drove home, 75 miles from the dealer, and after a few hundred miles, it was at least a quart low again.
- Keep in mind that there should be no smoke or leakage.
- The car is about 2 and 1/2 quarts short on fuel, and it smokes like a chimney sporadically.

2019 F-150 3.5L Ecoboost Burning Oil
Greetings to everyone. I’m new to the forum and have just purchased a new Ford F-150. The vehicle in question is a 2019 Ford F-150 with 9,200 miles on it. The vehicle is a Lariat Crew Cab with a 6.5-foot bed and a 3.5-liter ecoboost engine with the maximum towing capability. It was created in response to the valve cover warning that was sent regarding oil usage. With this truck, I’ve been in and out of the dealership several times. The long and the short of it is that the truck used 3.5 quarts of oil within the first 7,000 miles that I drove it.
Due to the clicking sound experienced at cold starts until the oil pressure develops, the dealer has requested that the camshaft phasers be replaced by the customer’s local dealership.
I checked all over the internet for a solution to this question, but I couldn’t find it anywhere.

It is possible that it will work if that is the only issue, but until everything has been certified to be in working condition, no one can truly tell you or give a commitment that it will. Because I presume you purchased it new and have a guarantee, you should let them to repair it and keep an eye on it after that. Wishing you the best of luck! PostbyCerbyg» I’m having the same problem with my 2019 Ford F150 3.5L EcoBoost, which was produced shortly after the valve cover warning was issued. In less than 6000 miles, I’ve gone through more than 6 quarts of gas. Due to Ford’s allegation that this amount of oil consumption is normal during break in, any repairs will not be authorized (what a joke). Because of this, I will have to deal with the oil consumption testing/PINTA for another 4000 miles, which will take me another year based on the way I drive my truck.
even those who have purchased a large number of Ford automobiles I believe they are still dealing with the same valve cover issue, but they refuse to acknowledge it.

When the oil was getting low, I replaced it one quart at a time until it was gone, and then I bought the 2020 5.0 V8. The 2020 has 5,000 miles on it, and the oil level is about 4/5 of a quart lower than it should be. Ford has an issue with the amount of oil that its engines consume.

2020 Ford F-150 Owners Are Suing Over Excessive Oil Consumption
Serious problems with a relatively new automobile are among the most aggravating things that may happen. Something as out-of-date and sloppy as a new model automobile that consumes excessive amounts of oil is simply unacceptable. Oil should only be used in the combustion of historical classics and diesels, not in a 2020 Ford F-150 pickup truck. That is precisely why F-150 owners are bringing a class-action lawsuit against Ford.

Reuters reported that a class action lawsuit against Ford has been launched on behalf of F-150s equipped with the 5.0-liter engines from 2018 to 2020 that were sold in the United States. According to reports, the vehicles are experiencing a number of issues that are resulting in excessive oil usage.

Engines require oil to lubricate all of the moving components that are highly hot. If these parts aren’t properly lubricated, things can quickly spiral out of control. Owners of Ford F-150s are reporting that excessive oil consumption is causing the engine to stop or fail without warning. Specifically, we’re talking about the 5.0-liter engine, which is also known as the ‘Coyote.’ According to Car Complaints, the engine has a capacity of 8.8 quarts of oil. The Ford F-150, like many other recent cars, is equipped with what Ford calls the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor, which informs the driver when the oil needs to be changed. It boils down to the fact that Ford F-150 owners who own these specific models and years are receiving oil-change reminders far too soon. A few owners have reported receiving notifications as early as 3,000 miles after doing an oil change.
Burning too much oil is really bad
Specifically, the complaint claims that certain F-150 engines have a flaw that allows oil to enter the combustion chamber during operation. In contrast to an oil leak, when the general public may see oil stains and become aware of the problem, in this scenario, the oil is being burnt, making oil consumption less obvious until it is too late to prevent it. The following attributes are allowed: accelerometer, autoplay, clipboard-write, encrypted-media, gyroscope, picture-in-picture, and fullscreen.
This also has a negative impact on the ignition and exhaust systems.
According to reports, the piston rings assemblies are allowing oil into the combustion chambers, which is a contributing factor to the problem.
Ford addresses the F-150 oil consumption issues
In the case, Ford is cited in connection with a number of service bulletins. In March of 2019, a Ford service advisory recommended that you repair the PCV valves and oil filter, then check the oil level in your F-150 every 200 miles to ensure that it is at the proper level. Customers would then be requested to return for an inspection after 3,000 miles had passed. Ultimately, the technician was expected to replace the engine long block component if the problem persisted. This work took a total of 12 hours to do.
Following the publication of several more warnings and faults that contributed to the excessive oil consumption, a class action lawsuit was launched in Michigan.
