While in the maintenance mode, the brake caliper piston must be squeezed into the brake caliper housing before changing the rear brake pads. The brake caliper piston does not have to be turned while the piston is being compressed in order to work.

Brake Job: Ford Fusion
Based on the Ford CD3 platform, which also underpins the Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr, and Mazda 6, the Ford Fusion is a mid-size sedan. The majority of these cars were introduced to the market as 2006 models. The platform was planned to serve as a successor for the Ford Taurus, which had been retired at the time. More information is available by clicking here. The brakes on these cars are uncomplicated and don’t break any new ground in terms of design. Disc brakes are used on all four corners of the vehicle in all configurations.
- Between 2006 and 2009, there are no significant changes to the braking system.
- An interesting side note: the Fusion was initially intended to be called the Ford Futura, but Ford was unsuccessful in a trademark case against Pep Boys Auto Parts, which sells a line of tires under the Futura brand.
- Due to a lack of material in the rotors of the Fusion, they are not very durable.
- It is recommended that the overall runout and thickness fluctuation be less than 0.001.’ Front rotors are a type of rotor that is mounted on the front of the vehicle.
- The minimum thickness is 23 mm (0.91′).
- Rear rotors have a new thickness of 10 mm (0.39 inch).
- Minimum thickness to machine: 9.1 mm (0.35′)Removal of the front brake pads:1.
Prying in the caliper sight holes to retract the pistons is not recommended since it might cause damage to the caliper pistons and boots.
Remove the brake caliper bolts and set the caliper aside for the time being.
Take the brake pad retraction springs out of the holes and set them aside.
Discard the brake pads, brake pad shims, and stainless steel shims from the vehicle.
Inspection for wear or contamination of the brake pads and shims is the fifth step.
The pads should not taper more than 2 mm in any direction.
Remove the brake pad slides from the caliper.

In the spots where grease is specified on the backing plate and shims, apply grease to the surfaces.
Attach the brake pad shims and the caliper bracket glides to the brake caliper.
The cut is positioned on the leading side of the body.

After five clicks of the parking brake control, there should be no movement at the wheels.
When it comes to bleeding, a scan instrument with the capacity to communicate with the HCU is essential.
The air is removed from the braking hydraulic system through the bleeder screws during the subsequent bleeding process.

Continue the technique until you have completed two diagnostic tool cycles as well as two manual bleed cycles.
Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir with the brake fluid recommended by the manufacturer.
Begin bleeding the system by starting with the right rear wheel and working your way down to the left rear wheel, then the right front wheel, and finally the left front wheel.
Have a helper pump the brake pedal 10 times, then apply firm pressure on the brake pedal.

Maintain constant pressure on the brake pedal while tightening the bleeder screw to the specified torque.

Tighten the bleeder screw to a torque of 71 inch-pounds.
If necessary, refill the brake master cylinder reservoir.
Gravity Bleed:1.
Install a rubber drain line to the rear bleeder screw and submerge the free end in a container half-full of clean brake fluid to drain the brake fluid.
Loosen the bleeder screw and keep it open until clear, bubble-free braking fluid comes out of the reservoir.
Tighten the bleeder screw to a torque of 71 inch-pounds.
Continue bleeding the system at each wheel until it is completely drained.
However, two Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) have been issued in response to creaks and moans in the front suspension that the customer may mistake for braking noise.
Issue: A popping, rubbing, grunting, squeaking, crunching, or cracking type noise may be heard from the front strut mount of some automobiles when driving over bumps at 1-10 mph (1-16 km/h) and/or when maneuvering in and out of parking lots.
The jounce bumper grinding on the dry strut plate may be the source of this noise, according to the manufacturer.
Only by disassembling the strut and lubricating each individual piece can the noise be eliminated completely.
Disconnect the front shock absorber and spring assembly from the vehicle.

- Turn the ignition key to the ‘ON’ position.
- Continue to depress the accelerator pedal and the emergency brake.
- Turn off the ignition and then turn it back on again within 5 seconds after turning it off.
- WARNING: The EPB system will be disabled, prohibiting the use of the parking brake, until servicing has been finished and maintenance mode has been reactivated (see section 4.4).
- This means that there is no need to spin the brakecaliper piston while it is compressing the piston.
