What Ram Trucks Come With Air Suspension?

For those of you who are a bit of a history buff, you will be aware that the United States developed air suspension for its heavy aircraft during World War II. This was done in order to reduce weight and prevent the aircrafts from becoming overly heavy, allowing them to fly more efficiently. A few years later, a far more sophisticated version was developed for automobiles. Some individuals adore it, while others are opposed to it. What are your thoughts? Many customers have inquired as to which Ram trucks are available with air suspensions, and we can confirm that there are a number of alternatives.

Let’s find out for ourselves!

The Ram 1500, the Ram 2500, and the Ram 3500 are all available with air suspension as standard equipment.

Let’s take a closer look at air suspension to better understand what it is and how it can be a good fit for your requirements.

What is Air Suspension?

We’ve covered the basics of what’s going on. But, to get into the specifics, air suspension is a type of vehicle suspension that is available in many styles. It’s a little like leaf suspension. Here’s what our colleagues at Car and Driver had to say about it in further detail: An air suspension system is a type of vehicle suspension that is powered by an electric pump or compressor that pumps air into flexible bellows that are typically made of a textile-reinforced type of rubber. An air suspension system is a type of vehicle suspension that uses an electric pump or compressor to pump air into flexible bellows that are typically made of a textile-reinforced type of rubber.

  1. A compressor inflates the bags to a certain pressure, which causes them to function like springs.
  2. Although air suspension is typically utilized to produce a smooth and consistent driving experience, certain sports suspensions are equipped with an air suspension system as well, as seen in the example below.
  3. Air suspension has also becoming increasingly common in low-riding vehicles, like as this stunning 1982 Dodge D200 CamperSpecial seen above.
  4. We wanted to provide these as well in case you were on the fence about whether or not to use air suspension.
  • A greater level of driving comfort as a result of a reduction in the levels of noise, harshness, and vibration on the road, which can all contribute to driver discomfort and weariness. As a result of reduced harshness and vibration associated with heavy-duty driving, the suspension system experiences less wear and tear. Because the components of the air suspension system are not subjected to as much vibration, air suspension trailers last longer. When the truck is empty, air suspension lessens the tendency of short wheelbase vehicles to bounce over rougher roads and terrain. Air suspension raises the ride height in response to the weight of the load and the speed of the vehicle. Because the air suspension is more appropriate for the road surface, higher cornering speeds may be achieved.

The disadvantages are as follows:

  • In addition to the initial expenditures of acquiring and installing an air suspension system, the cost of repairs for an air suspension system can often be three times more than the cost of repairs for a leaf suspension system over a 10-year period. The cost of fuel to run compressors for the purpose of sometimes pushing air to the proper pressure
  • It is possible that the increased weight of air suspension over leaf suspension will have a negative impact on fuel economy. It is possible for an air suspension system to fail as a result of its sensitivity to air leaks.

If you would want to understand more about the advantages and disadvantages, please see the Car and Driver article, which can be found here.

Quick Question: Is Air Suspension good for Racing?

A common question, and one that has valid grounds to be posed, is this one. A large number of sports vehicles are equipped with air suspension. As a result, the issue remains: is air suspension suitable for racing? According to our assumptions, it would depend on what you deemed to be ‘good for racing.’ It has been shown beyond a doubt that air suspension results in a smoother ride, but is that enough to justify its use? Let’s talk to the pros at Fitment: When compared to coil overs, air suspension is unquestionably a more comfortable ride.

  1. However, if you decide to put air suspension in your vehicle, it is likely that this will not be the only modification you make to it.
  2. We are aware of a few individuals who utilize their air-conditioned automobiles for racing and even drifting!
  3. One aspect of your installation that you should pay attention to is the software you use.
  4. Also, just so you know, air suspension is not certified by the Department of Transportation, therefore it is legally illegal.
  5. However, it is just as unlawful as raising your truck or having window tint installed.
  6. If you’re driving too fast and are pulled over by the police, and the officer notices that you have an air tank in the rear of your car, would he seize your vehicle?
  7. On paper, it appears to be prohibited, but in practice, it is not.

Which Ram Trucks Come with Air Suspension?

The Ram 1500, the Ram 2500, and the Ram 3500 are all available with air suspension as standard equipment. According to Mopar Insiders, the air suspensions are a good addition to any vehicle. Large Dutytrucks are often fitted with a suspension system that can handle continual, heavy workloads. As a result, when the vehicle is not loaded, the ride becomes harder. Ram is employing Frequency Response Damping (FRD) shocks on all four corners of the vehicle to tackle this. When a Ram Heavy Duty is equipped with a FRD shock, the valves of the shock automatically adapt to the kind of vertical wheel input, resulting in a firmer suspension feel for handling and a suppler suspension feel for riding over rough terrain.

Both the Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 are available with an Active-Level rear air suspension, which is a first in its class and incorporates a number of innovative innovations.

The coil springs of the 2019 Ram 2500 have been replaced with two airbags.

The Ram 3500 is equipped with a Hotchkiss rear leaf-spring system, which may be upgraded to include air suspension.

A new, two-piece front-suspension cross member construction provides a longer welded interface and increases the frame’s overall strength in the front. The Ram Heavy Duty series is equipped with an innovative three-link front suspension that provides excellent roll stiffness and handling.

In Conclusion | What are Your Thoughts on Air Suspension?

Overall, it appears that when it comes to air suspensions, some people have varied feelings and opinions. If you are a huge lover of Ram trucks, then you may fall on the side of the spectrum that enjoys or at the very least appreciates air suspension, as I do. We hope you found this post to be informative, and if you would want to share it with a friend or a family member, please feel free to do so without hesitation. The Difference in Quality

A knock-off compressor for my Jaguar XJR was acquired. It produced a lot of air, but it was quite loud. I was able to detect when it was running inside the car with relative ease. When it was less than 2 years old, there was virtually no air left. One option would be to place your thumb over the exhaust. I then attempted to repair it using a repair kit, but to no effect. I squandered $300.00. Installed an Arnott compressor (Wabco) and it is doing admirably. The only thing I can say is that if somebody asks me about shocks or other automotive components, I will suggest Arnott, Inc.

  • I was quite impressed by the expertise and knowledge of the employees, as well as their kind manner in which they assisted me in finding exactly what I needed for my truck and getting it to me in a very short period of time.

RAM 1500 Suspension Problems? Here’s How You Can Fix Them

Have you been experiencing problems with your RAM’s suspension lately? If so, is your ride a little more bouncy than it used to be? Is there a loud air compressor or one that is operating for an excessive amount of time? The suspension of your automobile is important for more than simply comfort. It’s also a matter of public safety. When your air suspension fails, you and every other motorist on the road are at danger of being killed or seriously injured. Instead of ignoring your RAM suspension issues, you should take action to resolve them.

The vehicle is now referred to as a RAM instead of a RAM truck.

First, let’s take a look at how you can determine whether your vehicle has a damaged suspension before heading to the dealership.

How To Check Your Truck For Suspension Problems

There are a few clear indicators that your air suspension is in poor condition. Then you may move on to the next step if your RAM is tilting to one side or drooping in the back. You are experiencing Dodge RAM 1500 factory air suspension issues, which you should resolve as soon as possible. If you’ve seen your truck taking a feared ‘nosedive,’ you should do the same action. You will notice that when you come to a complete stop, the back of your RAM will lift up while the front end will drop. This is an unmistakable indication of suspension damage.

It’s possible that you’ll only notice that something doesn’t feel quite right.

Alternatively, you may be aware that your brakes are in good working order, but your automobile is taking longer to come to a stop than usual.

Push down as hard as you can on each corner of your car as you go around it.

Providing it returns to its original position promptly, that corner is satisfactory. It is the opposite of this if the suspension bounces up and down or takes a long time to rise up that indicates a faulty suspension. Then it’s time to start thinking about repairs, assuming that’s the case.

Why You’re Having Suspension Issues With Your RAM

Photo courtesy of Pexels user Ruvim. There are two possible explanations for why your RAM 1500 may be experiencing suspension issues. Neither of these factors has anything to do with your driving style. The first reason for this is most likely also one of the primary reasons for which you purchased the truck in the first instance. The RAM is a colossal piece of hardware. Your RAM, weighing in at well over 4500 pounds, places a significant amount of strain on its suspension. As you put more miles on your automobile, several of its components, including its suspension, may begin to degrade on their own.

  1. Your truck was fitted with air suspension as standard equipment.
  2. You most likely loved the smooth ride offered by the air suspension system.
  3. It is made feasible by a vast network of linked moving parts and electrical components.
  4. And because all of these components operate together, a single malfunctioning component might spark a chain reaction across the entire system.

Your Choices To Fix Your Dodge RAM Suspension Problems

The unfortunate news is that this is the case. The good news is that you have a variety of options for addressing your Dodge RAM suspension issues. Take your vehicle to the dealership, and they will likely provide you with an estimate for a repair that includes replacing worn-out components with new ones from the manufacturer. This is the most costly option available to you. When purchased directly from the manufacturer, these components are quite costly. Replace your worn-out air suspension parts with new ones from a third-party manufacturer as an alternative to replacing them.

  1. However, it remains prohibitively pricey.
  2. Furthermore, the most serious issue still exists: the air suspension components will eventually wear out.
  3. After replacing your old air suspension components with new air suspension components, it is likely that your repairs will not be completed at that time.
  4. Once one component fails, you can be confident that others are on their way to failing as well.

A Better Way To Repair Your Suspension

It is not necessary for your air suspension problems to continue indefinitely. In reality, you can put a stop to your RAM 1500 suspension issues once and for all for a lot less money than you may expect. As an alternative to spending a lot of money to battle with your air suspension for the remainder of your RAM’s life, why not just get rid of the air suspension completely? You may get rid of your old, bothersome air suspension and replace it with a more durable, long-lasting mechanical suspension.

  • Here’s how to do it.
  • Instead of weak rubber airbags, this system places your vehicle on durable cold-wound steel springs.
  • This kit also includes a module that allows you to switch off the suspension warning light on your vehicle.
  • For about $1,199, you may have your RAM’s suspension wheels replaced on all four wheels.

What’s even better? The installation of these kits is intended to be as simple as possible. It’s simple enough to accomplish at home with a few basic tools and an hour each wheel. You’re not that handy, are you? You’ll still save a lot of money on labor charges when you take your car to the shop.

Dodge Ram Class Action Lawsuit Claims Defective Air Suspension System

Certain Dodge Ram and Jeep Grand Cherokee cars are fitted with an optional air suspension system, which is touted as a luxury enhancement, but which, according to some reports, does not function when temperatures dip below freezing degrees. Because of this malfunctioning air suspension system, the Dodge Ram class action lawsuit Canada claims that owners of impacted cars have been forced to spend time, effort, and money in order to have the air suspension system replaced on their vehicles.

What is the Alleged Air Suspension System Defect?

According to reports, the Air Suspension 4-Corner is advertised as a luxury addition, and vehicles equipped with this feature are offered at a higher price. Air suspension systems, according to the Dodge Ram class action lawsuit Canada, work with the help of a compressor; however, the compressor is said to have failed as a result of condensation, dampness or moisture, which causes the internal valves to jam, resulting in the blowing of control fuse. It is as a result of this that the affected cars face increased wear and tear on other vehicle components ‘including, but not limited to,’ the fuses ‘relays’, ‘bolt joints,’ and ‘bushing,’ which in turn affects the wheel alignment.

According to the Dodge Ram class action complaint, the air suspension problem might cause the airbags to deploy while the vehicle is being driven in some instances.

A class action lawsuit against Dodge Ram was filed on behalf of the plaintiff, Christopher Heard, and a proposed class of persons or corporations in Canada who purchased one of the following model year 2013-2020 vehicles with the optional Air Suspension 4-Corner 9: the Jeep Grand Cherokee; the Dodge Ram 1500; and the Dodge Ram Rebel.

See also:  Evaporator freezing in car? (Best solution)

Christopher says that if he had known about the problem in the air suspension system when he acquired the car in 2016, he would either have avoided purchasing the vehicle or paid a lower price for it.

In the end, he claims he had to sell his Dodge Ram 1500 at a loss.

It is claimed in the Dodge Ram class action lawsuit that the plaintiffs ‘purchased and/or leased vehicles that are of a lower standard, grade, and quality than represented,’ and that they ‘did not receive vehicles that met ordinary and reasonable consumer expectations regarding safe and reliable operation.’ Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles US LLC, FCA Canada Inc., WOCO Tech USA Inc., and Mopar Canada are among the companies listed as defendants in the Dodge Ram class action lawsuit against the company.

WOCO reportedly produced the allegedly faulty air suspension parts, and Mopar allegedly entered into a distribution agreement with WOCO to deliver the parts to Dodge dealerships in Canada for installation in Class cars.

Defendants Allegedly Concealed Air Suspension System Defect

Christopher asserts that the defendants were aware of the air suspension problem as soon as it was first installed in the 2013 versions of the Class Cars since a number of vehicles returned with complaints that the air suspension system had failed within a short period of time. They did not, however, issue a recall for the fault because ‘the defect does not cause an easily detectable loss or failure of the Air Suspension system until it is run for lengthy periods of time in a colder temperature,’ as stated by the company in their report.

According to Christopher, if the defendants had conducted proper testing of the air suspension system, they would have discovered that it was more prone to failure in colder climes and should have made modifications to the system to prevent such failures.

In the Dodge Ram class action complaint, the plaintiffs claim that ‘since so many Affected Vehicles are located in colder climes, certain users, operators, owners, or lessors have encountered severe delay and wait time for a specific dealership to locate and procure replacement components.’ In certain situations, Class Members may have experienced a loss of control of their cars as a consequence of the air suspension system flaw, resulting in property damage and personal injury, which in turn may have led in an increase in their insurance premiums.

2019-2022+ RAM Adjustable Air Suspension Links For Lowering

With the Adjustable Air Suspension Links from Revel, you may raise or lower the ride height by up to 2.5 inches while keeping the functioning of the truck’s suspension modes. They replace the factory sensor links. Installation is simple because the links make use of the OEM ball studs and do not necessitate any modifications or cutting. You don’t like the way it looks? It’s really cool. Revel Links may be withdrawn at any moment with relative ease. In order to decrease linkages, we provide two types of pre-adjustments: light and aggressive.

  • You’ll need to reduce their size by half in order to avoid striking them as frequently (you’ll still strike them on steep dives, but less frequently).
  • You may come up against the bump stops from time to time.
  • Compatibility Ram 1500 (2019-2020 model year) Ram Classic: choose from the Ram 1500 models from 2016-2018.
  • When the length of the links is increased in the front and decreased in the rear, the truck’s onboard computer detects a ride height that is higher than the factory settings and adjusts by decreasing the quantity of air in the air suspension system, as shown in the illustration.
  • The process through which they are created Revel Links are constructed of aluminum with a silicone coupler that has been moulded into it, and they are created utilizing CNC technology to provide maximum performance and dependability.
  • You should always have your links installed by a qualified technician if in doubt.
  • It is possible that an alignment will be necessary in order to enhance the performance of the connections.
