As one of the only surviving independent power tool brands not acquired by a larger firm, Makita is an important part of the American manufacturing industry. A number of other hand tool and tool storage companies, such as Fein and Hilti, have maintained their independence. Yes, Craftsman and DeWalt are Owned by Stanley BlackDecker

Following Sears’ closure of 235 locations in 2015, Stanley BlackDecker (SBD) made headlines when it acquired Craftsman Tools in 2017. However, the corporation has a large number of brands. Originating in 1843 with a guy by the name of Frederick Stanley, the corporation swiftly established its foundations. A similar firm that was founded in 1910—Black and Decker—joined forces with it in 2010. Its tool storage segment alone generates $7.5 billion in revenue for the corporation as of 2017. SBD brands include the following:

• DeWalt, Stanley, Black + Decker, Bostitch, Craftsman, Vidmar, Mac Tools, Irwin, Lenox, Proto, Porter-Cable, Powers Fasteners, Lista, Sidchrome, Emglo, and USAG are just a few of the brands represented.

As it turns out, TTI is the parent company of Milwaukee Tool as well as a slew of other power tool firms. It also has licenses for the RIDGID* and RYOBI* brands for cordless power tools, among other things (Emerson owns RIDGID). Techtronic Industries Company Limited is abbreviated as TTI (TTI Group). TTI, which was founded in Hong Kong in 1985, sells tools all over the world and employs more than 22,000 people. TTI is a publicly traded company on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange with global annual revenues of more than US$6 billion in 2017.

• In addition to Milwaukee Electric Tool Company, RIDGID (“Orange”) – licensed from Emerson, Empire Level, Hoover, Dirt Devil, Oreck, Stiletto Tools, Hart Tools, Homelife, VAX, and AEG are also represented.

RIDGID (plumbing) tools are manufactured by Emerson in the “Red” color, as a general rule. TTI is a licensed manufacturer of RIDGID tools in the “Orange” color.

Wait, I Thought Bosch Owned Skil?

That is no longer the case. Bosch sold Skil Power Tool Brands to Chervon in 2017, and the two companies joined forces. This resulted in the addition of two major brands to their portfolio: Skilsaw and Skil. Chervon launched its power tools business unit in 1993, and the EGO brand of cordless outdoor power equipment was introduced in 2013. Chervon has been in the power tools market since 1993. Earlier this year, the firm revamped Skil (including the logo) and announced the introduction of new 12V and 20V cordless power tools.

Chervon is the manufacturer of the following product lines:

• Then there’s this: Bosch sold Skil Power Tool Brands to Chervon in 2017, and the two companies merged. Skilsaw and Skil are two well-known names that have been introduced to their portfolio as a result. Chervon launched its power tools business unit in 1993, and the EGO brand of cordless outdoor power equipment was introduced in 2013. Chervon has been in the power tools business unit since 1993. A new 12V and 20V cordless power tool line was launched by Skil in 2018, along with a revamped business logo.
