Is there anyone else who has been in a similar situation? Even after the battery was completely depleted, the infotainment system continued to function normally. I’ve tried repeatedly to keep the power button pushed for more than a minute without success. Pull the fuse out and examine it to determine whether it is dead (if it is dead, you will be able to detect a physical break within), or if you are unsure, use a multimeter to determine the status of the fuse.

It is also recommended that you turn on the dash light if you are experiencing alternator problems.
However, in these instances, you should get a DTC setting.
When everything else fails, do what batcave suggests and detach the battery for a period of time (you might as well use this chance to attach a charger and charge it up), then reconnect and perhaps the computer will resume.
There is one thing to keep in mind for the future.
When you are jump starting a vehicle, whether it is your own vehicle or another vehicle that has died, always, always switch off any non-essential devices such as the audio and air conditioning.
In this particular instance, hopefully you haven’t done so, but just a word of caution.

According to your experience, you were able to get 5 years out of it, which is approximately the lifespan of a battery.
The engine bay becomes quite hot, especially after shutdown, and the battery has little chance of lasting that long.
I suppose there may have been a TSB for an early battery replacement, but it appears that the OP is no longer covered by warranty, and I don’t believe that the TSB truly extended the warranty on the battery as well.
This vehicle’s battery should be in the trunk, for two reasons: first, they don’t need an extra 50lb up front and on the driver’s side, and second, it is more convenient.
Some of the Mk5 hatchbacks might have their batteries relocated to the rear by using the battery box from the VR6 vehicles and running the wiring and other necessary components by hand themselves.
As far as the Mk6 and Mk7 cars are concerned, I’m not sure whether this is a possibility because the cutout may not be in the trunk at all, given that I don’t believe any of them were shipped to dealers with the battery in the back.

Today, the car wouldn’t start again, so I phoned CAA, who came out and checked and replaced the battery for me.
I don’t believe I’ll chance pulling things apart because I’m not skilled enough and, given my recent luck, I’d definitely cause more harm.

Dead Battery
I quickly mastered the stopping technique that allows me to avoid it, and I’ve gotten into the habit of turning it off as soon as I get in the car, regardless of whether or not I’m driving. Since receiving the vehicle, I’m not sure I’ve used the stop/start button more than 30 times. The roadside assistance technician inquired as to whether or not I made use of it as well. He was under the notion that it had a detrimental impact on battery life, but personally I think it belongs in the same category as the imperative need to let your automobile warm up before driving it – primarily untrue, but with some logic and truth if used in practice.

It’s the only other thing I can think of is that I had my right-hand dipped headlight globe replaced a couple of weeks before my battery died.
